We have to split actual holidays. FH's parents live in CT and I spent last Christmas with them. My parents live on LI and we spent last Thanksgiving with them. This year we will switch. FH and I are in VA and its too much driving if we have to split our limited vacation time.

Being that we are Jewish, many of our holidays have more than one night to celebrate. So far we have split Chanukah, Rosh Hashanah. Passover of this year, we will alternate from one house to another. My family has many branches so we usually do the 'second' night together and the first night goes to the 'in-laws' of my siblings.

we have been splitting most holidays, but this year worked our great! HIs entire family came to long island to celebrate christmas eve and christmas day and new years i spent with his family ( my parents had their own plans) and for easter my parents are coming to CT for easter ( I hope my dad had a bad fall off of a ladder today)
EDITED OMG- I just realized how that last statement sounds... YIKES... I meant that I hope they can come because my dad had a bad fall off of a ladder today)

We split holidays....Christmas eve is a very big deal for FH's family...so we go there...Christmas day is huge for my family so we spend it with them. Thanksgiving we switch every year...one year dinner with my fam...dessert at his...next year we switch...it's a lot of driving around...but my parents are divorced if we had to visit three families on holidays it would be crazy.

We split all the holidays...Unfortunately last yeart was the start of a new tradition for Thanksgiving I will no longer see my family!! FH's family lives all over the country, so we all come together in Hilton Head Island, SC for the week of Thanksgiving..It is tons of fun & we all rent condos on the beach, but it is hard to be away from my family
Christmas Eve is a BIG thing with FH's family, so we spend it at his grandparents...Christmas day is at my house with my family....But we do desert at his house, so we eat twice Easter is the same, we split between my house & his grandparents...So tomorrow I will be on to eating 2 dinners!

Unfortunately, my parents are very strict about me being with my family on every holiday so FH and I have to be apart on some. He goes to FL for a week during Christmas to see his mom, and he spends Thanksgiving with his Dad in LI, while I go out to PA for every holiday. We always spend New Years together on our own.
I have to break the news to my Mom that I'm going down to Florida for Thanksgiving this year but FH will be spending Christmas with us. That will probably go as well as me telling her I'm not getting married in a church.

We sort of split the holidays. My parents are OOT, so I fly to see them for Spring Break, Thanksgiving and Christmas. FH's parents live close by, but they are Jewish, so it really doesn't matter that I don't see them for Christmas. This year, both Christmas and Hanukkah are at the same time, so we aren't sure what we are going to do yet. It's complicated.

FH and I are both kids of divorce.. so holidays are a touchy subject! If we are lucky, we get to catch dessert together somewhere... Otherwise we make arrangements to see eachother at a different time..
We already decided our first holiday together as a married couple we aren't going anywhere! If someone wants to see us, they can travel to us!!!!

Yeah it was more harder when we 1st started dating..... But i tell ya i hate to be popualr in my family... All they do is fight over us ( me & my fh), who wants us here & there....Like today my father got pissed cuz i didnt want to go to my cousins for sunday sauce aka gravy. HE got mad & said well u 2 must spilt your time up now that u r getting married, u can't always spend holidays with HIS family. I'm like UMMM OK thats not true we do spilt our time, but it gets worse every stinking holiday...
I can't wait until i get my own house, then i can say well if u all want to see us then come by ME! !!!

Re: Do you and your FI split time on the holidays between your families??
This is the ONE instance when it's good that we're interfaith. We on;y have thanksgiving to worry about. On all of the catholic holidays, obviously we're with ym family and the jewisg ones with his...thanksgiving is tricky.
At first I wasn't invited with his family, but he was always invited with mine. He's usually have dinner with them and dessert with me, I think for the first year or two, then we tried dinner with me and dessert with them, but they wouldn't wait for us if we were late, and we'd get there and they'd be leaving, and make us feel like sh*t so it sucked. Now, since FH's grandparents have passed, they really don't have a traditional trhanksgiving dinner...also FH doens't get along with his sister, sow e have been spending it at my house only. Splitting time is ahrd b/c they won't ever make ANY adjustments to make it easier on us, and I won't give up dinner with my family because I usually cook it. It's been a big point of contention in the past, but usually we have it with ym family...we were going to invite his aprents to our house this year, but it didn't happen

Thanksgiving is tricky. Word of advice. Alternate years. Families have no choice but to understand. That is what my married siblings do, andw hat I'll have to do.

Being that we are Jewish, many of our holidays have more than one night to celebrate. So far we have split Chanukah, Rosh Hashanah.
Same situation for us, except for the fact that FI's parents are divorced and the two nights worked out for him in that situation, so my family makes things a little more complicated. So far I've gone to my parents for the first night of Passover (we don't do a second) and then to whoever in FI's family invites us on the second. My familt has actually never done anything for the rest of the holidays, like Rosh Hashanah, so he's been coming to my family for Thanksgiving and we do the rest of the Jewish holidays with his. Seems to work so far...
