Do you ever 'detox' yourself from food?

Do you ever 'detox' yourself from food?

I used to do this when I was younger to jumpstart my weight loss, and I started it again this morning. I don't starve myself by any means, but I only eat veggies and steamed chicken and drink only water for like four or five days. I don't know why it works for me, but I always feel gross on the inside when I've been eating a lot of junk. Then when I start my diet, I feel like I am starting with a clean slate. My cravings for crap are all gone by the time I start the diet. I know it's probably not the best thing to do, but I already lost two pounds from yesterday, so I'm happy. I won't weigh myself again until Friday, then I'm going to start my diet.

It's so funny you should say this because I'm doing this as well. We 'interviewed' our potential RD restaurant last night and I couldn't just have the salad, so some cashew crusted calamari and soft shell crab tempura and souffle and (free) muffin later, I feel gross. The detox is on!

I'm so glad you didn't reply that I'm crazy! I know it's sounds weird. I know it does, but I feel so clean on the inside right now I mean, it's not a colonic or anything, but hell, I feel like all that sugar and carby crap that feels like it sticks to my insides is gone. Oh god, I'm strange

I'm sort of doing that now, but I have to keep it up for 12 weeks!!! Actually, it's not as extreme. I follow Body for Life and works really, really well for me!

I used to know this woman who would fast for an entire day every once in a while to cleanse her body...I tried it once, and it was really difficult. I would rather just eat healthily.

Oh, I'm not fasting completely. I'm just not eating crap and I'm not eating too much. Like yesterday...I had a lot of water, half of a grilled veggie wrap for lunch, a sliced cuccumber, a sliced tomato and a banana. I eat if I'm hungry. I'm really trying to get rid of my cravings for junk food, too. So far, so good. I'll be back to WW by friday. I need a clean slate, though.

I'm pretty good during the week. I make lunches everday for work, so I know exactly what I'm eating,- (salad, nuts, hard-boiled eggs, turkey and cheese roll-ups), and then usually chicken and veggies, or salmon and veggies for dinner, and then a low-fat/ low-carb dessert that I make on my own. I have some pretty healthy dessert alternatives that are totally natural, and help me out with my sweet tooth. When the weekends come, I almost always cave into me weakness- ICE CREAM. I can never seem to get enough.

RAchel how do you steam chicken?

In an actual steamer or do you put it in a collander over hot water and cover it?

Just curious.....

I have a steamer here and use that. I add white wine to the water.

I have been doing really well this week. Exercising, and what not. I have not felt deprived at all and I am feeling the healthiest I have in a long time. I managed to lose 7.5 pounds. Most of which, I'm sure, was water weight, but it's helped to jump start my loss.
Weekends really are my weak times, like big weakness, so I'm thinking maybe I'll start counting my points again Monday instead of tomorrow. I'll just keep with what I'm doing until then.

I tried to detox myself once and I felt really sick and weak. My brother said that was normal, but I hated that feeling.

I don't think it's a terrible thing to do if it's short term. I did a juice fast once for three days (I would have those Fresh Samantha juices only, which are SO good) and I found that I lost my taste for sugary things and fries, which are my downfall. And if you feel more motivated to stick to a healthy eating plan, then it's good even if the real health benefits are minimal.

It's a total mind over matter for me, I know I can't live like this for more than a few days or so. I would go crazy, anyway

I thought that detox was more than veg & chicken - a guy I work with went on some lemon, water drink for a week. He said he actually wasnt hungry - she just got really crabby

I'm not following someone else's plan, I'm just getting away from junk.

I'm so glad to read this detox thread....
the summer is winding down and I feel like all Ive been doing is trying to squeeze in all my 'cheating' before I go back to teaching.
I am CRAVING the routine of school so I will not eat so much.
Starbucks is my best friend, and I feel so full of toxins the past few days.
I am thinking of a detox!!!!!:

Its almost like what they make you do for Atkins....You eat meat, cheese, and plenty of veggies for two weeks and drink tons of water.....This basically removes all cravings of sugar.
