do you ever take off your.....

Original post by mariana881

e-ring??

I rarely take it off, sleep in it, shower with it and only really take it off to put lotion on. So, I've been noticing that the skin on my pinky finger that always rubs against the diamonds in my e-ring is getting a little rougher and is losing sensitivity!!! What should I do? I mean I dont want to develop a nasty callous in a few years!!! Has this happened to anyone else?

What a coincidence that you posted this! I wear my ring all the time, I only take it off to shower (~ 50% of the time) and occasionally if I put on lotion -- usually i just put the lotion on around it.

However, my right hand ring is a gemstone ring with blue topaz and peridot side stones and it's wayyyyyy too big for my finger. I have a guard on it but it's still huge on me. Now that it's cold and my finger is even smaller it would rub against my finger and i now have a small callus there! I stopped wearing that ring yesterday so hopefully the callus will go away, and I plan to get it resized when I'm back in NY in a few weeks. I'm not hopeful though, I have a callus from holding my pencil too low down and even after years of mainly using a computer it's still there

Yeah keep it on to shower too (i checked first to make sure it couldnt go down the drain if it fell off). That is basically what it is, a small callous....doesn't look funny or anything but i have less feeling in that part of my pinky now..... I mean, who needs feeling there anyway, right?

I used to never take it off, but now I take it off to sleep and shower... I have noticed the same thing as you bc I have a diamond band, I have been using cortizone cream on it and that has been working!

otc cortizone or prescription cortizone?

Be careful about cortizone cream. It thins the skin, and the skin on your fingers is very thin to begin with. Try using vaseline at night and if that doesn't work, use something with only a little hydrocorizone and use as little as possible.

Cortizone doesn't really help dry skin though (I have some skin issues, can you tell I've been going to a derm forever?), so vaseline or a very thick cream with lots of moisturizers in it is really a better bet overall.

Just my two cents!

I only take it of to go to the gym and when we are painting the house.

It does feel weird without it.

I take mine off every night because If I sleep with it my hand swell up. But since I lost so much weight (30lbs) I can't fit it.

I take mine off as soon as I get home at night. I don't wear it to the gym, to shower, to cook, clean, etc. It's antique, so I'm very careful with it...

I take mine off to sleep, shower, put lotion on my hands and sometimes when doing dishes.

Wow, id have never known! I'll try with a regular thick cream first and will see if that helps. Thanks!

I never take mine off.. I had little balls inserted so I have no problem with having it on it doesnt bother any of my fingers or anything.

I take it off as soon as I get home from work and only put it on if I am going out. I even have a ring holder for it so I always know where it is. Otherwise I'd leave it all over the place like my cell phone and wondering where I put it.

mines a solitaire too... I only take mine off during my kickboxing class b/c otherwise it hurts when I go to punch the bag.

If its twisting and turning and thats why the diamonds are pressing against your pinky, maybe you should get it sized smaller so it stays center. If it already is centered, I would suggest getting the diamonds reset in a different ring- or go to the jeweler who he got the ring from- they might be able to tell you what to do about it.
