do you find this to be insulting?

Original post by bride2b2817

the son of a close family friend of both mine and FH's is getting married the week after us. I just received her bridal shower invitation and it is at my reception hall. I was angry/upset that they chose the same place where I will be getting married almost a month after the shower! What worries me is that his family is 'well off' and if her shower is like a reception I feel like my wedding will seem like a joke

I wouldn't be insulted at all. Since you said they're just family friends and not family, I doubt they were thinking of your wedding at all when they booked the shower. As many others have said, a shower and a wedding are two very different events, no one in their right mind would compare the two.

Plus, it will only be women at the shower. At least the men will still be experiencing your hall for the first time on the wedding day. and that will make it different for the women as well!

I might be hurt a little like you said, they are 'well off' but after attending an engagement party at CLM, I have come to the same conclusion as everyone else, weddings are different. I even got a little scared of my hall choice after I kept hearing 'Oh that's where I had my prom.' 'I went to a bar mitvah there...' I thought, 'great, I'm getting married at the kiddie hall.' But then I finally found other brides getting married there and who had been married there and met people who'd been to weddings there and my mind was at ease. it is intimidating when people throw the smaller parties in the same place you are having your BIG event...but i don't think it will upstage (or was intended to) your wedding. But I do understand how you could feel that way.

A lot of times it's the bridal party that plans the shower and maybe they didn't even know you were having your wedding there.

There are a ton of Bridal Showers at the place where I'm having my reception, people tell me about them all the time. You can't let it get to you.

I could see how you would be upset. But I'm sure they didn't even think about your wedding being there when they planned their shower. Try not to take it personally. And dont worry about what others will think. Your friends and family wont give it a second thought when it comes to your wedding cause they'll be so happy for you.

I agree with this! Your day will be beautiful!!!

Don't be insulted. As a fellow Watermill bride, I can assure you that our weddings will be NO JOKES! I have never heard of anyone booking such a big place for a shower. It is a friend of the family, not a relative. The people that will be attending that shower and your wedding can consider themselves lucky to be going to the Watermill twice.

Well, I do not think that you need to feel like they chose it because you are getting married there. THere are so many rooms there, and I cannot imagine that her bridal shower, no matter how extravagant, could even begin to compare to your wedding reception

I agree.

I can understand why you might be insulted. The bottom line is that the Bride doesn't throw herself the shower, her BM's and Mom got together and planned it (I imagine this is the case). I wouldn't worry about it and what's memorable about a bridal shower anyway? Everyone is more focused on the main event!

yup i agree. if you think about it--i bet they are using the smaller room...not one of the suites (Astor or Vanderbilt) and besides---a wedding there is out of this world!

i think you just saw WM as YOUR place and got a little over sensitive that someone else you know will be using it just before you. don't sweat it...in the grand scheme of things--it doesn't matter.

don't worry, the place will be set up differently for your day... I would be a little insulted but try not to let it bother you......

I've been to your hall for a birthday party and while it was nice it was definitely NOT a wedding.

Don't stress over it!

If it makes you feel any better, the junior class at the hs I work at had their banquet at my hall about a month before our wedding. I was so scared that I would hear a student say they hated it or something..I just tuned it all out lol.
