I would have answered no to this question, but I shamefully did today. Someone showed me an invitation they received. I thought it was weird because it was in a business envelope. I let out a small gasp when I saw that it was done like a flyer. I quickly recovered and said they came out real nice. But I felt really bad afterwards. Do you find yourself judging other people's weddings?

Re: Do you judge other people weddings? POLL
When I went to a wedding for DH's cousin three months after ours, I judged everything.
She chose a fancy venue and did no work of her own to personalize it, but we choose a nice but not glitzy hall and I personalized so much. I was so much happier with our wedding.

I try not to. Each wedding represents the bride and groom and the things that are impt/special to them, may not be the same for me. I guess I am so hooked on the idea of karma. I wouldnt want anyone judging my wedding. Plus, you never know what peoples finances are so....

I do...but I judge more because I'm like 'Oooo, I would like somethink like that...' and 'Ohhh, noooo not for my wedding.' I don't mean to it's just a natural reaction....

Yeah, but probably not the way you mean. I just feel like my hall compares so poorly against what I have seen.

Absolutely. Since planning my own wedding though, I definitely see things differently.

I think I do, but at the same time TONS of people are judging mine and having no problems voicing their opinions so I think its ok to judge, as long as you dont speak your mind about something that is negative

Honestly, I don't think I do. I have had a good time at every wedding I have been to and I am usually flattered to be invited. There have been a few times I dreaded going, because I would be going alone, and didn't know many people, but once I was there, I had fun!

i think when i judge it is more out of jealousy...i think to myself gosh how can someone be spending sooo much money on things when i'm scimping on things to keep the cost down

I think you start judgeing weddings when you plan your own. Prior to being engaged..i never judged (with the exception of an out of state wedding but then again, i never been to a wedding outside NY) Its what you do...not that it matters because the only ppl that need to be happy at other weddings is bride/groom

Yes I do. It is human nature. But I have come to realize that not everyone does things the way I or my family do. They do what is within their means.

I do it all the time, I just received an invite for a 'friends' wedding and it is insane. The rsvp is on a postcard, its looks like a bar mitzvah invite but its supposed to be a black tie wedding. I was only critical bc she could not stop talking about her 'expensive invites', meanwhile I have seen less expensibe ones that were far more beautiful.

Re: Do you judge other people weddings? POLL
before I got married, I didn't. But, now it's just an instinct. When I see something at a wedding (we've been to 3 since our own) thoughts will just pop into my head like, 'Oh, I wish I thought of that' or 'eww, that's nasty'
It's like a reflex now. And, I really do hope it goes away soon. It ruins all the fun
eta: I did use my cousin's wedding as the 'standard' because her's was the nicest I had EVER been to. It was in 1994, so when I recently saw her pics, I think I over-embellished her wedding in my memory. For some reason, I thought she had these MASSIVE centerpieces. But, at my wedding, she mentioned that mine were a lot bigger than hers (I thought they were the same size).
She said that her band was horrible (I remembered them as being great)
She had a calligrapher do everything, so I just thought that calligraphy was a must...etc, etc.

Well, yes. I don't like to admit it, but I do. When we looked at reception sites, I remember seeing photos and thinking 'that's tacky, I would never do that!,' that kind of thing. Also the reception sites--some just are not my style at all, and while I'm tempted to call them tacky, that seems mean to me. It's probably someone else's style and that's no problem.
