I'm Italian-American and it is considered direspectful if we don't call the in-laws mom and dad. I have a very hard time imagining it so, but I know I will call them mom and dad. I call my parents Mamma and Papa....so I feel like mom and dad is ok for the in-laws because it's a little different than what I call my parents.
by their first names most likely.
Oh believe me I'm not setting myself up b/c I'm tired of calling them Mr and Mrs since I am so close with them! My parents were born in Italy too and I grew up hearing them call each other's parents mom and dad, so even though it'll take getting used to, I'm cool with it.

I used to call them by their first names. When we got engaged they sent me flowers and signed it 'Mom and Dad.' I feel a little strange calling them that, so I have just been avoiding calling them anything for the moment.
I call my FMIL momma, and FFIL is still MR. **** -he is a retired cop so I feel funny calling him anything else, everynow and then its dad...but rare
We really haven't talked about it. We live so far away from his parents that for right now I wouldn't feel comfortable with 'mom' and 'dad.' I'm sure I will in the near future, just not yet.
