Do you love your e-ring? Did you have anything to do with picking it out?
Original post by Kim921
I LOVE my e-ring, very me! It is a 3 carat round solitare set in platnium. FH was right on target with no help from me.
Curious to know if you ladies had anything to do with your FI's choice or if it was all on his shoulders.....

I love my e-ring and FH did a great job on his own - he knew i have simple taste - so he went for a classic - 6 prong round solitaire set in platinum.

I have a 1 ct. ring also- and I think in NYC it's hard to not get 'down' sometimes and then you have a small diamond when everyone else has big ones. A girl in my marketing class has a 3.5 carat- the thing is unbelievable.
But really- what does it matter? I know nothing about this woman. Who knows what her relationship is really like.
Plus- we could've gotten a 2 carat ring too- but 1) that isn't 'us' and 2) we didn't have that type of money.
It's funny because all of my immediate girlfriends wear a family heirloom.. my DH is the only one that actually had to buy the ring.
At least the wedding band was an heirloom (we both lucked out because we were so strapped for cash there was no WAY we would have been able to even buy a plain platinum band at that point)

We went ring shopping for almost 10 months! FH had 2 diamonds on hold and I picked the one I liked. I hated every setting and told him to tie the stone to a string and I'd wear it like that. When he proposed (which I totally knew was happening that night ) I couldn't believe the setting! It was unlike anything I've seen and so unbelievably perfect! I still stare at it all the time!

Sassy: Its so funny that a 1ct ring has now been considered 'small'. I think that is very recent b/c I know many wealthy people who were married not too long ago who have a 1 ct ring and its perfectly normal.
And honestly, i do not know how people afford larger quality rings (i know if you get a lesser quality, thing equal out but Im assuming everyone get the best quality which I know is not true either but for the sake of argument). I know what my ring cost and its outrageous and adding another carat would have made it obscene! The money my husband spent on my ring is 'ours' and i wouldnt want any more going to something like this. Particualarily since we paid for our own wedding, house and everything else.
PS: Before we got engaged I told my husband to get me a CZ ring b/c I didnt need a 10K diamond to get married to him. So of course he went to tiffany's - ahhahahha

I LOVE my e-ring. It is the only one made in my style, so I know no one has the same Hubby and my MIL picked it out. I just told him I like the round cut style, and that is what he chose.

Stef, I was thinking the same thing when I read that in Sassy's post. Since when is 1ct considered small? When did this happen?

Some girls wish they had a bigger carat. My friend has a ring a little over 2 carats but the quality isn't as great as mine. Yes its bigger than my diamond but it doesn't have that sparkle and clarity that are more important than size.

i love mine - fh and i went shopping to look so he got an idea of the shape of the stone and then it was all him..i didn't want tnayhting too big - we agredd beforehand that its better to save that money for something we both need or enjoy instead of just somehting for me....he surprised me with a little bigger than i thought - but i love it and still giggle when i see the light reflect off of it in the sun when i am drivign or sitting somewhere..

Sazzy, is this girl's 3.5 carat of good color, calrity & cut?
I see so many rings bigger than my 1.5 and they are not as nice. I would much rather have quality than quantity.
Just a thought.

I love my ring, it's 1.31, good color, cut and clarity. I would have settled for anything, but Brian was on a mission to find a heart stone which he knew that I really wanted. (They are hard to come by...)
Re: Do you love your e-ring? Did you have anything to do with picking it out?
My ring was originally my FH's mother's. She passed away 20 yrs ago. It's white gold, the band is flat and it has 2 settings - one next to the other but kinda diagonal. I don't have a picture of it now - I took a few some weeks ago for insurance purposes but they aren't developed yet. The ring is unique and I get tons of compliments on it. But most of all, it's a family heirloom - I know FH woudln't give something like this to just anyone. And I love it and I treasure it.

I love my ring - I had nothing to do with picking it out. In fact it wasn't picked out, it was designed from scratch by Al. He made a bunch of sketches of what he was looking for and found a jeweler willing to work with him. (he couldn't find any ring he liked in the stores, and if you knew him, you'd know its more his style to do it himself).
He knew I wanted a platinum solitaire, so he had something to go on, but he came up with the design & picked the store. Its a cross between a tension set and a cathedral setting. He liked the tension setting but wanted the symbolism of the full circle of the ring, so he combined the two ideas (its not tension set, but incorporates that look somewhat). I was in the dark about the whole thing.

I picked out the setting, but my fh went out and found the diamond! I was totally suprised by his proposal and I love my ring. It is so unique; I wish I had a picture. I have yet to see a ring like it.
oh, and I love my inlaws to be!!!

Mine is 1ct total and I have to admit, there have been times since I got engaged when people asked to see my ring and when they did they were like 'oh...very pretty'. Like they were thinking it is too small. crazy. On the other end of the spectrum, I have had girls who have less than 1 ct say to me 'WOW! That's beautiful!'. So, I don't care, I like it , it;'s 'me' and it symbolizes our love. And I got the matching band so it blends perfectly.
