My FH and I are pricing DJ's. We really like after hours and Tommy Tunes. Are all of you ladies having a DJ and an MC and if not if you only have a DJ does he do all the announcing of you and the BP or no? We are only having about 120 ppl at our wedding so some ppl say we don't need both.
What are you ladies doing?

Re: Do you need a DJ and MC?
I am doing both because the DJ's usually hate doing both jobs. If you just have one person they will announce also. Check out Baratinni Productions. The owner is a childhood friend of mine and is very reasonable and the life of the party!

WE are having both. I think the MC really tries to keep everyone out on the dance floor!!

We originally booked just a DJ, then I got nervous and went back and hired an MC.

Re: Do you need a DJ and MC?
I would definitely suggest to get both. MC's are good party motivators and help to bring life to the party. I know there are DJ/MC's that do both, but I personally don't feel comfortable with the DJ leaving the both to act as MC.

Re: Do you need a DJ and MC?
I don't think you need both. We are having ~110 people and we have a DJ/MC combo (one person). He will function as the MC, but we're not doing crowd participation or anything like that, so we really didn't need to pay the extra money.
Check out FM Entertainment...they have great pricing and Frank is awesome!

We are having both, it depends on the number of people, since you have a pretty small party you should be fine with just a DJ

Re: Do you need a DJ and MC?
Initially we were just going to go for the DJ/MC combo (1 man doing both) but when we sat down with our DJ and we started talking about the benefits of having both, FH and I both agreed that having a 2 Man team (1 DJ and 1 MC) better suited our needs.
I should also mention that we too are having a wedding of around 130-150.

I've been to weddings were they only had a dj. prob is all he can really do is concentrate on the music. If thats what you want then thats perfect.

Re: Do you need a DJ and MC?
We are just doing a DJ. Our wedding is only 100 people and it didnt make sense two have to people, when we only need introductions and then simple announcements. Some people like the MC's to talk and hype up the crowd, but I def. didnt want that. I have seen it as some weddings and its annoying to me. But other people might find it useful. I think I would've been more inclined to havign an MC if my wedding was much larger.

That's why I'm unsure because we are only aving around 120 and our crowd is pretty young with some exceptions of course. I don't want somebody in everyones face and I don't think with our friends and family they will need anyone to motivate them and get them on the dancefloor.
I have ust never been to a wedding with just one dj/mc so wasnt sure how it works and if they can do all te announcing and everything by themselves.

they can. Plenty of DJs are both DJ and MC. The benefit of having both really is not only to get the crowd going on the dancefloor but also to help facilitate all the things that go on where the DJ is involved (such as the cake cutting, parent dances, entrance, etc). While the DJ is setting up for all these events, the MC will be out gathering people or letting you know that they are going to start the parent dances now. I feel the MC helps keep you on schedule.
If you don't want the MC to be all up in people's faces tell them flat out.

Re: Do you need a DJ and MC?
We have about 125 people coming to our wedding. We went with AfterHours and chose to only get a one man team - DJ/MC.
Like you we have a very young crowd who will need little motivation to get up and dance.
Personally, I did not want an MC out on the dance floor interacting with guests. I prefer someone behind the DJ booth playing good music.
All a personal preference though...Good Luck! =)

Re: Do you need a DJ and MC?
We will be having only a DJ. We really only need him as an MC for announcements. I've actually never been to a wedding or any event with a separate MC. As long as the music is good, people get on the dance floor! I really dislike loud people being in everyone's face, it can get really cheesy. I'm really not concerned about people not dancing. I don't think a stranger walking up to you when you don't want to dance will make you want to dance. If it was me, I'd probably go up there then walk back to my table after a minute. LOL.
