Do you need a DJ and MC?

Original post by Leenie28

My FH and I are pricing DJ's. We really like after hours and Tommy Tunes. Are all of you ladies having a DJ and an MC and if not if you only have a DJ does he do all the announcing of you and the BP or no? We are only having about 120 ppl at our wedding so some ppl say we don't need both.

What are you ladies doing?

I went to a wedding w/o one..and the dance floor was empty prob 90% of the time....my DD was the only one on there and she was 4 at the time! I think having an MC is a big part of getting a DJ...you want 1 person mixing the music while the other is getting ppl up and moving!

we only had a DJ (Frank from FM). We had 159 people and he was perfect and all we needed.

It depends on the crowd though. I had a very lively crowed that didn't need anyone telling them to get up and dance, etc. My dance floor was packed all night and everything ran smoothly.

We're going with a one man team more as a result of liking him more than the other companies we were looking at. The only reason I had wanted a MC (for me!) was a bilingual one for the introduction portion. But I can easily ask a family member to do that.
The DJ we're going with started at as a club DJ, spinning at many large private events, etc as well. So if he's good enough for New York magazine he's good enough for my wedding. Hahaha.

But I agree, it's all about personal preference.
