Ok so I booked just the DJ with no MC, they wanted to charge me double for both. Do you really need an MC, I have a huge Italian family that idosent need much to get on the dance floor. Who got both the DJ/MC and why?

My family (and its a huge one) doesn't sit down for a second at weddings... therefore I felt there was no need for an MC.. my mom does a perfectly fine job at that herself

no, i guess someone at the RH can do the announcements for the entrances, cake cutting, specialty dances and garter not sure how that would work but i think thats what the alternative would be.
Also as far as mc's, theyre not all like that, our mc didnt push people to dance or anything like that. They asked us ahead of time how much crowd participation do we want him to do so we had a choice. We asked for an mc who wouldnt try to make our guests dance or get annoying. Plus we knew our crowd would dance so we didnt worry about that

If you have the MC there to just announce cake cutting etc... there is no need IMO to spend double the amt just to have him say a few words... I think an MC is only good for when you want someone to get the party started and all that... We are having a DJ/MC combo so i am assuming the the DJ makes those impprtant announcements

I don't like MCs. Why can't the dj make announcements? I'm getting married in MD, and MCs aren't even an option. They seem more of a money making scheme.

i do agree mc's can be cheesy, thats why i booked starlight express bc i liked their MC's. And he didnt just announce cake cutting hahaha. Bc there are dj/mc combo's who can do it so its fine.
I just wanted to post and say NOT all MC's are cheesy

They gave people the mic at weddings so they can sing or scream along to the songs. Sometimes its fun but can get cheesy!!

oh ok i thought it was for something else. BUt usually it wasnt an MC who did this. I DONT like when theres a videographer and goes up to every single table and gives the mic to every single guest to say something. I had a videographer but didnt do this.

I am also having a DJ/MC combo.. I dont see the need of a MC (specially if they are going to charge you double)

I guess I'm the odd ball here...I plan on using both a DJ and MC... but the MC isn't annoying or cheesy... he works great hand in hand with the DJ... Plus, it's not that much extra for me, so I would rather it. JMO... If they are going to charge you THAT much extra for one, then no, I wouldn't bother getting one... just a waste of money then...

yeah i dont know how much extra i paid for MC only bc i got the price with dj and mc only so i have no clue lol. If its alot more than yeah its pointless, one thing i do know is that i did NOT pay double for an MC.

Re: Do you really need an MC?
i got an MC & a DJ & since we have big italian loud fun families it wont be a problem to get our party started it will be a problem to end it! lol I just expressed that to the MC that we really dotn need that type of in your face & all over the place but since the package we got included both we will have both. My MC will also help out with RH things. they dont just announce & get a party started . While the DJ is spinning the MC takes care of other things like if people are asking for certain things cooridinates stuff with the Banq. Man. that kind of stuff. I thought it was better to have that option then my DJ doing all of it. JMO!

I think it's good to have one. The MC lets the DJ do it's thing and vice versa.

I've seen that and I don't like that either!!! Even at the bridal shows I find them irratating! This is FH's area, I'll deal with it when he narrows down his selections, I just want someone to play music and make those few announcements
