I'm probably being just really irrational right now, but I've had it with flowers. Had it. I'm just not going to spend the ridiculously gauged prices on them. I was going to get hurricanes from BBB and use those instead, but now my RH is giving me some trouble about the set-up, and I don't feel right asking my family to have to spend my wedding day as a set-up and break-down crew.
So...do I even need them? Or is it just complete tackiness to not have CPs at all? I can't find anything affordable, and now DIY isn't an option either. I'm just baffled at what to do.

Re: Do you REALLY need CPs???
i think its personal preference but i do think that CP's really bring the room alive. did you have low CP's priced? we did low ones and i thought the prices were pretty reasonable....the thing is...you are not just paying for flowers, you are paying for them to be set up as well. if flowers are too much $$, have you thought about asking your florist to do candles? i've seen some gorgeous CP's that are just candles of varying heights.

I'm planning on making my own, but I agree it will be a pain to set up. I plan on seeing if I can set up the night before, and after well I won't really care!

Re: Do you REALLY need CPs???
I think you should do the hurricanes and have a friend set them up. My RH is setting them up for me and my florist also said she would do it for us. I would ask around I think one of your friends or family wouldnt mind doing it if the florist wont and the RH should do that with no problem I mean hello they set the tables and you are spending a fourtane there it will take them an extra 10 minutes

Re: Do you REALLY need CPs???
I think you definitely need CPs to pull the whole look together, but there's no law they have to be expensive flowers.
Ask the florist if they can do candles. If the RH is giving you a hard time about the set up, is there a friend you can ask to do it for you instead of a family member?
If you put the CPs together and just drop them off in boxes all your RH would really have to do is place them on the tables.

Re: Do you REALLY need CPs???
you can do non-floral cp's. I do think the cp gives the whole room a different look and more of an effect. I would be careful with doing it yourself, its not as easy as most people make it out to be. If you are going to buy it i am sure you will buy wholesale or when you order from flower stores they give it to you closed so you have to take care of the flowers for days before the wedding in order for them to bloom. If you dont follow instructions carefully then they wont bloom. I did this for my e-party and let me say that i wish somebody told me ahead of time what i would have to do bc i dont think i would've done it. For 3-4 days before my e-party all my focus had to be on the flowers and taking great care of them bc they came closed when i bought them and i was so afraid the whole time that if i mess up then they wont open and i wont have cp's. Then transporting there you have to be careful. You cant just box any type of flowers. The flowers can break if they are not packaged properly and also you cant put it in a box and drop it off the night before bc they will die by the next day. I saw 2 girls on LIW who did their own flowers and one said she was up until 4am the day before her wedding bc she didnt realize how long it would take and she had to wake up at 6am for her wedding and she had no sleep basically. Another one the same situation happened.
Why dont you do the tall thin vases with orchids just floating inside the vase, that would be easy to do. Or you can do candle cp's...maybe something similar to this pic
Yeah, you would think all they need to do is open the box and plop them on table, but apparently it's enough extra effort involved that we'll have to be charged. UGH.
I'm wondering if we have a light arrangement at the base, like just winter greens, berries, petals, votives (i.e. enough stuff to warrant a florist), if we can get one to arrange it for us. Unfortunately we do not have any friends (surprise!) not in the BP that would be able to set up during picture taking time. It's so frustrating, that even low CPs I was quoted were still over 100 a pop. BAH.

I think the room would feel empty without some sort of CP. Your RH won't set them up? Even if it was something easy? Can you get a friend or two to take charge of it for you.

Those are very pretty, thank you! We might look into a similar route if we can only use an inside piece and not bring from the outside to the florist. We really like this set, but now I guess we'll have to see what we can swing.

Just roses and a few winter greens...crazy right? Apparently it's common practice to charge more for black magics and vendellas in the holiday season than other times of the year because they're 'christmas colors'. Ludicrous!

that is very pretty and different. Reminds me of Melissa rivers wedding, they did this russian royalty theme and had these emerald green and ruby red type glasses on the tables, it looked very nice.

I don't think it is a matter of if you really need them, more then it sounds like you want them. I think your RH is being really pissy, and maybe you can speak to someone and explain the situation. Maybe they will feel bad if you tell them you can't afford anything else?? It really is just taking them out of the boxes. You would have them all set up. Have you tried flower barn florist? They didn't seem too expensive for my day of flowers. I did the hurricane thing also we got everything from ikea pretty much. Save on crafts.com has some great ideas too.

I cant believe they are giving you a hard time about setting up your centerpieces!! What did they want to charge you to do that?

They actually didn't give me a number, just said that since an extra staff member will need to be put on to do this, that the cost would be passed along instead of absorbed. That's even more frightening, I'd rather just know X amount, not think it's X amount and it turns out being triple X amount. I'm so annoyed! But not completely surprised...I knew going in that little things like this that other RHs do no questions asked are more of a production here.

that IS ludicrous! we paid $90 per centerpiece and they were probably only that much because i had a lot of peonies. espo is right that they should be about $75 in most cases. have you already contracted a florist? maybe another florist can offer you more assistance and a better deal?

could you maybe buy your vases somewhere on your own (i got mine at the dollar tree) and have your florist add the flowers to that?

Thats really annoying! But you and I both know that our RH can be a little difficult....but its so worth it(to me anyway)
