Do you really not wear the same dress twice?

Original post by marymoon

I've mentioned Im going to Fhs cousins wedding next month. it's a black tie affair and I do own a couple of ballgowns. I have one velvet one, which is out of the question for a summer wedding, and I have a satin black one, but the thing is I wore it to FH's other cousin's wedding. I was going to buy anohter dress, but it just seems like such a huge expense and I realy love the gown I have. One side of the groom's family will have seen me wear it at the other wedding. I know you're not supposed to wear the same gown twice, etc, but do you think anyone would really notice? I don't feel like spending hundreds on a new gown, shoes, purse, etc!

I have many friends who are my size, so we rotate dresses among our group. This is a perfect solution. We also all luckily have the same size feet.

I wish. FM me your sizes and maybe I can get in on this group

We're sizes 6-8 and shoe size 7-7 1/2 And we are all 5'2'-5'3'...

That would be great to get another extended group! More dresses to choose from!

If you are comfortable with it, there's nothing wrong with wearing it again. My usual rule is if anyone outside of my immediate family has seen me in the dress before, I won't wear it again. But I love buying new dresses, so any excuse I have to go dress shopping, I use it.

Thanks ladies THIS is the gown, BTW

Do you think it stands out?

I love evening gowns! At first i was really excited about buying a new gown, but it's an OOT wedding and between the travel, hotel and gift,t hat's already a LOT of money. The problem with going to filenes or dept store for me is that I'm plus sized, so it's really ahrd to find gowns. I find that scott mcclintock gowns fit me really well so I was going to go to that store, but the one I know of with a lot of stock is in NJ. Maybe I'll look anyway and if I don't find something, worst case I'll wear this gown. I love the gown so much I've been wanting to buy it in a different color. Maybe I will. And if they notice i'm wearing the same gown in a diff color, then they're just paying WAY too much attention to me!

Different accessories, maybe new sandals & different hair & you'll be fine

i've worn the same black dress to 2 seperate weddings - one family, one non-family. i would wear what you have, if people notice so what?

I don't have any new advice to add, except I own that gown too and I love it. It's so pretty, it should be worn more than once!

Wear the dress It's black, not too sound rude but seriously who will remember the details of a black satin dress other tht your FH & immediate Fam, and they love you too much to say anything . It;'s not like it was hot pink

I would wear the gown you have - get some new jewlery, bag and wear your hair different. Just accessorize it and hardly anyone will notice, let alone care.

it's not rude at all. I don't really think people would really notice..I'm the kind of person who notices, only because i love eveningwear. But I mean where did this originate that ytou can;t weare the same dress twice. I mean I wouldn't wear the smae dress to every wedding (I've already gotten to wear it 3 times w. diff sides of the famiy..LOVE the gown!) and I woudlnlt wear it if it were like the brother of the person whose wedding I wore it last to, but it's the 3rd cousin of the person who's wedding I wore it to, So few people will even know who I am. I think I'm just gonna wear the dress. I love it. I feel so good in it. That's what matters. Thanks ladies!

ETA: I can use some of the $$ I was planning to spend on a gown, shoes, a bag and jewery on a nice new set of jewery to go with the gown, and maybe a nice dinner or museum admission while we're down there in MD!

Well, my closet full of 'once worn' dresses would say yes...

I Hate the you can't wear it again rule. I am petite and have a hard time finding something I like that looks good too so I really don't care. I will do my hair/makeup/jewlery a bit different but if I want to wear the same freakin gown I do and I really don't care what people say.

I know you're not supposed to wear the same gown twice,

I hate the phrase *supposed to* or *not* supposed to...You can do whatever you want. Save money. Change the look of it with a different pair of shoes or a shawl or some different jewelry and a different hairstyle...

Nicely said!!!!!

Wear it again, who cares! I have worn the same dress to many a weddings with the same friends. If people have a problem with it then that's their problem. I wouldn't spend hundreds on a new dress.

I used to not wear the same dress in front of the same people.

BUT, at our wedding, I noticed that a few of DH's aunts wore the same dresses that they wore when their own children got married.

And, I also saw some pictures from 2 of his cousin's weddings and quite a few of the people our age wore the same suits and dresses to both weddings.

So, now I'm not sure anymore

I would wear it again. If you feel weird about wearing it again, add something to it...otherwise i think you will be ok wearing it twice
