Do you send gifts if you cant attend a wedding?

Do you send gifts if you cant attend a wedding?

I dont know if Im old fashioned, but I always thought if you were invited to a wedding and didnt attend that you should send something, even just a card. Is that silly? And if you went to their wedding and they didnt come to yours should they send something and vica versa?

I found this out the hardway because alot of people who RSVP'd no did not send anything. So Im curious should I be bothered or thats how it is?

I've always given a gift if I could not go. Except for my sisters wedding..I really did forget

I've only gotten one gift with a NO RSVP so far.....so either people just aren't sending them, or they're waiting until closer to the wedding.

I think it depends on the person. I sent a gift to my good friend who got married 2 years ago, but I couldn't attend. But I also couldn't attend my second cousin's wedding last year and I didn't send anything. I did give her a shower gift though since I attended that.

I'm not sure about the wedding, but for our engagement party whoever didn't come sent us a gift in the mail. I'm pretty sure that's how it's suppose to be!

FH and I had this talk last night... We have got back 3 R.S.V.P'S that we sent $$ to them and nothing in return. The only thing I am thinking is maybe they are waiting for the actual wedding.... We shall seee!

Ive always sent a gift if I couldn't attend. The $ amount depended on how well I knew them.

I've never said no to a wedding... but if i did, it never would have occurred to me to send a gift... afterall they arent paying for my plate if im not going...

ITA. Sometimes I've said no cause I couldnt afford to go. So if I cant afford to go I cant afford a gift either. JMO

i always send a gift if i can't go...however i guess not everyone does

we got a few checks with the no responses, but most ppl didn't send anything. One that annoyed us especially was someone who just got married 10 mths ago. We went to their wedding (where we had to travel and spend a lot of $$) and then gave a generous gift. They RSVP'd late to our wedding and then didn't even send a gift.

I always send a gift, but not with the RSVP. I send it closer to the wedding.

I received two RSVPs with checks in them to mine, a few gifts post-wedding and the majority was not at all ...

Ok so Im not old fashioned, seems like alot of you also send gifts as well. Because for us we had 27 people RSVP no and only recieved 6 gifts/ cards, etc. I think that is all that we are getting since we got married 3-4 weeks ago. I didnt know if I was missing something or not.

I usually do not send a gift if I can't go to the wedding, unless I know the couple REALLY well in which case I would send some $ gift. I don't expect anything in return eigther....guess its a cultural thing for me....

Depends on the person. I've not given gifts when I've said no.

I always thought you were supposed to give a gift, not the same amount and when you go to the wedding, but at least something from the registry...

I think it depends. If a friend invited me and I really couldn't go (if it was a friend I would make every effort), I would DEF send a gift that signifies 'I wish I could be there!'

However, if it wasn't someone who I was too close to and they invited me for whatever reason, I may send a card congratulating them.
