Do you send gifts if you cant attend a wedding?

Original post by Lovebug2016

I dont know if Im old fashioned, but I always thought if you were invited to a wedding and didnt attend that you should send something, even just a card. Is that silly? And if you went to their wedding and they didnt come to yours should they send something and vica versa?

I found this out the hardway because alot of people who RSVP'd no did not send anything. So Im curious should I be bothered or thats how it is?

It depends on how close you are to the couple... If it were my family or a close friend - yea, I would send a gift. BUT if it were just a friend and I couldn't make it, then I wouldn't send a gift. Maybe a card. Maybe.

I've always sent something if I couldn't attend. This includes not just weddings, but bridal showers. I just hope people remember my generosity!!!!

I've only gotten one gift with a NO RSVP so far.....so either people just aren't sending them, or they're waiting until closer to the wedding.

ITA I'm not going to a wedding on May 1st and I'm going to send the gift this weekend. We're not going but I'm either going to send a $50 check or a gift off the registry - haven't decided yet.

I would always send a gift if I couldn't attend a shower or something. I always thought that was the right thing to do.

I've RSVP'ed No 2x

The first time i didn't realize that most people think you sent a gift, and after really thinking about it, I kinda feel bad I didn't send anything at all.. but i wasn't really close to the couple and the reason I couldn't go was we were moving a few states over so, it's not even like I had time to send one if i thought to.

The 2nd I did send a pretty generous gift... I'm still awaiting a thank you though

The etiquette says you are supposed to...I received some gifts with 'no' responses but not w/all :(( I always send a gift if we RSVP no.
