OK.. so I was just looking at my contract and the more I look at it the more I think that a 9pm start for a reception is rather late.. no?? we are having our ceremony there from 730-8pm, CH at 8pm-9pm, then reception at 9pm-1am.
Do you think I should ask them if I can start a half hour earlier?????

Nope, not for a Friday night. The later the wedding for a Friday night the better. It gives people time to get ready, some people will be coming home from work then to the reception. Plus people normally eat late on Fridays.

I think it is a bit late. I would be scared that a people would start to leave way before the weddingis over or be so tired they won't really enjoy the affair.

My cocktail hour starts at 8:30 and my reception starts at 9:30,,,I was a little concerned about this too,,but I think it will be fine because people will be eatting cocktail hour food!! Its a friday night and people can go home after work,, relax for a little and get psyched to start the weekend with a bang!!! I personally love friday night weddings! I went to one that was over at 1:30 am ,, and I didnt wanna leave I was having so much fun!!

No, that's exactly what mine was. Ceremony 7:30-8 CHour 8-9 Recep 9-1 It was perfect!!!

Mine is similar so I dont think it is a big deal: CH 7:30 - 8:30 Reception 8:30 - 12:30 VH 12:30 - 1:30

If you can make it earlier I would. I'm having a similar situation where my wedidng ends at 12am on a Sunday which stinks cause I feel like everyone will be gone by then so I'm trying to start everything earlier. XOXOXO Kitty

If you were having it on a Sat. I would say yes, but I totally agree with the ladies in saying that for a Fri. it's fine, and if anyone your inviting thinks otherwise than they can always leave early. My CH starts at 6pm only b/c the church is at 3pm. I didn't want there to be any bigger of a break. There's no guidelines' that say you have to start at a certain time. I think it's perfect!

For a winter wedding I would say yes.. but since ur getting married in Aug.. its perfect!!!

for a friday night it seems ok, if you could get it 30 mins earlier may be a little better, but i wouldnt worry too much

Because it is on a Friday, definitely not!
Because now people can actually make your ceremony after work. Friday wedding brides, don't bite my head off, but it IS hard when you get an invitation for a mass or ceremony at 4pm or 5pm, because then you have to take at least a half day off from work and sometimes this is not possible!
So I think people will rather be there for everything and they will make it right after work, and then after, they can PARTY the night away! (and most people are off Saturday so they will just sleep in)

My hours are the same as yours, and I don't think it's late at all. Remember that your guests will most likely fill up at cocktail hr. so they will need time to make room for dinner!

I have the same exact timeline as you, and I think it's perfect. Your wedding is on a Friday night, so as mentioned, this will give people time to get home and get ready. You're fine, I wouldn't change a thing!

if its a weekend nite people can stay out to party!!! we are doing CH 7-8 REception 9-12 on a fri nite as well
