Do you think it would be inappropriate...

for the MOG to wear red? My mom found a beautiful dress for my brother's wedding. It is available an a few different colors but she likes red the best. She is afraid it is not an appropriate color. She is going to ask my FSIL her opinion, but she is pretty easy going so I don't think it would bother her. What do you think?

I don't understand what everyones hang-ups are with colors of dresses. If she likes the red, i say she should go for it!!

Sorry, like my last commentary, its only inappropriate because its a cultural thing for me. But wearing red should be fine.

I say its a slippery slope...If the girl is easy going and doesn't care i say go for it. Personally I wouldn't want my FMIL in such a bright color at my wedding....but if she doesn't care?? then whatever!

I think it depends who u ask. I am personally very laid back and could care less what she wears. Other people are more picky.

I think it's a huge issue because color never used to be an issue. In the past it's said that the mother of the groom wore beige and kept her mouth shut..lol...now it's a different time and a different story but there are still some people that think that it's the brides day and bright color draw your eyes, not that anyone can outshine the bride but if your mom in a champagne and your FMIL in red are in a picture...who jumps out at you? Same thing with family pictures...you put your BM's in a muted color and FMIL in a bright red, where are your eyes drawn? I thikm that's where the color issue comes....

to me.. its not a big deal... but everyone is different. It all depends on what you FSIL decides.

i see your point with the mom vs MIL issue...unfortunately the brides mother passed away a year ago so it won't be a battle of the moms.

my mom definitely would be getting a red dress to draw attention...thats the whole reason why she is questioning it.... she'll probably end up getting a different color that she will be more comfortable in

i can understand it being a problem if she were to wear white (my FSIL's MIL did that, and let me tell you, it was ****** up), but i think as long as the mom's can agree any color is fine.

My bridesmaids are wearing red. I wore red as a bridesmaid before. I don't think its a problem for the MOG to wear red at all! I guess it couldn't hurt to ask if she thinks it might be an issue.

I would be opposed to it. MOG and MOB should chose a color to blend in no STAND OUT! Also I think you need to have a good figure to pull it off. JMO! Sorry if I offended anyone!

i'm with you. in fact, FH's family keeps asking me what colors they should wear, and i'm caught off-guard every time. i think family should wear any color except WHITE and the BM color (unless it's something REALLY common like black).

For me I would care less, BUT it depends on the type of red that it is, if its a bright red like crayon red I would maybe try a different color, I think if its duller or darker she can do it.
