Re: Do you think this is rude??
I don't think it's rude at all. I HATE bridal showers...esp ones where they make you play stupid games like bingo...I can't think of anything more torturous than sitting for hours watching one person open so many gifts. I will breeze thru mine and have my BM's unwrap them for me and hand me the unwrapped box and I will open it as quick as possible. No one likes bridal showers girls - let's face it. I will feel terrible when it's my own b/c I know how I've felt at others.
I've heard of the wrap in clear or don't wrap at all and I think it's the greatest idea ever. This way the bride can not open gifts - see them all in a pile and see what they are and thank everyone. This way she can spend her time visiting with everyone who came to see her. Maybe the older women like to sit and watch and see what each gift is. Everyone I know dreads getting a shower invitiation. I honestly can't think of anyone who enjoys going to them.
What I think is rude is when the invites asks you to wrap in clear or not wrap at all....and you bring a wrapped gift. It's rude to not do what the invite asks. We had a cocktail party for my sister for her 2nd wedding....she didn't need another shower but we wanted to do something for her so we made up a really cute poem on the invite saying she didn't need the typical household stuff but that her and her FH would need ornaments for their 1st christmas tree together....we knew people would want to bring something so thought that was cute and something small. Some girl showed up with a TOASTER OVEN! That was rude - made the others feel like their gift was a little nothing.
Sorry - I just don't think the wrap in clear is rude at all and don't think you should beat your friend up over it if that's what she wants for her sister. Everyone is different.

I HATE THAT!!! I went to a shower last year and they did that. the gifts were put on a display table and they didn't open them....'
I know showers get boring during the opening of the gifts..but come on!!!!!! That is the whole point!!!
To each his own..just not my cup of tea!!!

Re: Do you think this is rude??
like I said in one of the other threads, it's rude to ask people to put forth the useless effort of wrapping something in clear cellophane (the cellophane being another item that the gift giver will have to purchase)
If anything, just say 'unwrapped gifts are welcome'

I don't think its rude, but it is very different! Maybe she would rather the bride spend time with guest then opening gifts? Maybe you should try and hint to the bride and see how she feels because I would kind of be upset if I couldn't unwrap anything!

Re: Do you think this is rude??
I think that in general it's rude to make requests about gifts people are giving to you...they aren't obligated to get anything as it is (though the point of a shower is to 'shower the bride with gifts...' the bride shouldn't dictate what the gifts are or how they are wrapped...

I'm not sure it's rude - just odd....
I am not a big fan of telling people what to do in invitations...

Re: Do you think this is rude??
I have been seeing it alot lately on invitations...I personally don't like it but I know that some brides don't want to waste time opening up gifts...I think it takes the fun out of it

I think it's rude and an inconvenience to her guests. I would be upset if I had to run around looking for clear wrap.

NO, I do NOT think that is rude at all. I think that is actually a nice idea. She is just trying to save her guests from having to sit there for 2 hours opening gifts. Come on, who really loves sitting there for that long. As long as the bride would not mind actually unwrapping gifts, i think it is a nice idea.
Agree. I only have a few ooh and aahs in me. I'd rather talk to the people at the party...
Maybe if she worded it differently, explaining why to wrap it in clear...

I agree 100%. JMO but i think everyone needs to learn to relax a little and loosen up. Rules were made to be broken!!! This is one tradition i'd love to see disappear! Again, JMHO.

I don't think its rude, maybe a little silly, but I for one think opening gift for 2 hours is pretty boring, I would think most people would love to attend a shower were you could skip that part.
But I would say instead ask evryone not ot wrap, I think clear wrap is kinda silly.JMO

I think it is totally rude and weird. If she doesn't want to open gifts, then she doesn't have to. Big deal. I think it's obnoxious to have people bring gifts that everyone can see out in the open.

Re: Do you think this is rude??
I was recently invited to a shower where they asked everyone to wrap everything in clear paper. Turns out the bride is not planning on opening anything and wants to see what she got. I guess to her it is a timesaver.

Re: Do you think this is rude??
I don't think it is rude. Does she have a reason behind it? Like time? Or the amount of guests coming? Also I have been to a lot of Showers and where it is fun for the Bride to open gifts it is no fun to watch her open 120 gifts. But some guests want to see what she got and at their leisure they can take a peak.
