Do you think this is tacky?

Do you think this is tacky?

FMIL told me that when FH's aunt finds out where people are getting married she calls up the RH and pretends she is interested in getting married there to try and find out about how much the couple paid and then she gives only as much as the RH says it would cost.......

I was a little annoyed by that.....I rather get less money as a gift than have her trying to find out how much money we paid - I think its rude.....especially that I know she is the type of person that will tell all of FH's other relatives that she found out how much we are paying and then tell them whatever the RH said......

I think that is tacky but I have heard of a lot of people that do that. I have also heard from many people that they go to the website so they can try to figure out prices and give an appropriate gift.

Wow thats very rude!!! So in her eyes it doesn't matter how much she likes the people getting married or how much she liked the wedding, its all about how much they paid..

YES TACKY ALL OVER..and STUPID....
BUT PEOPLE WONDER LOL...

I have a wedding in two weeks and my aunt looked on the website and they had rates posted (in PA) she looked only b/c she thought she wasnt giving enough.....

Maybe she wants to make sure she is giving a good gift???

Re: Do you think this is tacky?

i understand the logic but why can't people just give what they can? i think it bothers me because its FH's aunt.......say she was going to give $350 but then called and now thinks she only has to give $300. that is tacky to me.....you are his aunt, you should give him what you want and can afford because he is your nephew.....not because you can get away with paying less after you find out what the RH said lol

Re: Do you think this is tacky?

yes it is...actually, we had a guest who obviously did this, because if you rounded up to the nearest dollar, the person gave us a gift that was what our hall cost with tax....

I didn't care what gift they gave us, but it was annoying to know that they called to find out.

Re: Do you think this is tacky?

okay i just wanted to make sure i wasn't being overly sensitive or something......

i dont think its anyones business how much we paid either - and i dont want all of FH's family thinking they know how much it cost us because she called and thinks that she found out....

i mean if this was a person who didnt have that much $ and was concerned that they weren't giving enough then maybe thats different BUT this is not the case with this person......I think she is nosey, wants to make sure she doesn't give too much, and will tell all of FH's family

I would find that really annoying

ETA: It's really no ones business how much you paid per plate.

Re: Do you think this is tacky?

It's gross - but that's not the first time i've heard of that.

I can go one better... A close friend of mine has In-laws that work this way:

Go to the wedding with an open envelope with $300 CASH in it. Eat the cocktail hour, food's good, money stays - don't like the food - take out a $20.00.

Go to the reception, like the food, music, centerpieces, leave the money alone...don't like it, take out more money.

Bride & Groom don't come over and thank you personally for coming....big money comes out.

Cake is the last straw...like it, seal the envelope. Don't like it - remove even more.

She said if she didn't see them do it - she never would've believed that it happens...
