Ok this is SO random. But I live for Starbucks, it is really so good. When I order my drink, I do feel obligated to tip since there is that cup right there in plain view, but at the same time it is SO $$$ for a Grande drink that I kind of don't want to tip. The actual amount of time required to ring me up and make my drink is a minute - UGH tipping guilt. So do you tip?

I tip sometimes, it depends on my mood and cash flow.
Just an FYI from a former Starbucks Barista: They get paid really well, I made $7.50/hr in 1997 (which is more than I made working at WLIR, actually), and the tips get added up for the week, and then divided up by the managers to give to the baristas based on how many hours they worked that week.

I dont tip, unless I have a really large order and the employee is really good about it. Some people there dont even watch what they're doing they have like 10 conversations while trying to make your drink!

I don't tip, if they were getting paid a waitress salary then I would do it, I mean like someone said this tipping is out of control, carvel had a tip jar out too, but only when the owner isn't working, it's just plain crazy.

My FH does, though, and it drives me NUTZ!!! Everywhere we go lately, there are tip cups, at the bakery, subway, etc. I'm a nurse at an animal hospital. Do I get friggin tips? I do a 'service' too!!!

Nope, don't tip. There really is no reason to IMHO. Does anyone tip at McDonnalds? They are getting you something too. I love Starbucks, but it's almost $4 for a cappacino...they make enough money off of their customers IMO. It's not like I am sitting down and they have to come take my order and bring it to me. They just put the order in the register and then put the coffee in a counter that is a few inches away!
ETA: Besides they get health insurance too! I don't get health insurance at my job and I have to move around more...where is my tip???

same here, but it's rare. i used to wait tables. we were paid like $3 / hour. there's a difference between what we were paid and did compared to what they get paid and do. sorry to sound so $hitty.

just the coin change I get i dump in there. but at my gym when they used to have the juice bar I would tip them a buck.

Absolutely NOT!!!!! I only tip waitresses, and if someone lifts something really really heavy for me... Starbucks employees get paid by the hour.....95%of waiter and waitresses salary is tips.

but even thought the coffee is 4 dollors....they dont make good money for making EVERONES coffee..8 or 9 maybe even 10 dollors an hour is not good living.....do you think 300 a week is good money....i am sure most of them need to work two jobs just to get by....so whats 60 cents change or a buck ever now and then.....your help goes a long way to people who only make a little.....just my thought

I don't tip unless you are a bellboy, waitress, wash my car, or do my hair! Well, you get the point! My DnD has one of those cups and I'm in there everyday but I don't do it. Boston Market was my 1st job, and I never got tips there, in fact, no one ever tipped me at any job! My friend put it best: You are walking 3 feet over to the coffee, pouring it, and ringing me up for $1.60. How does that constitute getting tipped?!

We usually tip at Starbucks. We haven't gone in a while, so it's a treat for us, but we normally put a dollar in the jar.
