I have a question for you ladies. Who wants to be a stay at home Mom when they have kids? If you could swing it financially would you or would you want to continue with your career? Many people have been asking me the 'when are you having kids' question? I am not even married yet and people are asking me about kids. I definitely think that is the toughest job around. But I would love to stay at home with them for a few years when they are little. What does everyone else think?

I am planning to stay for for the first 6 months. After that I am going back to work. I could never be a SAHM permanently. I have seen it go awry too many times.

since my career is going nowhere right now, I could def. be a stay at home mom... we will see in a few years though

I get the 'are you serious?!?!?! ' look when I tell people we are probably not going to have kids. Being a parent is the hardest job i can imagine, I don't know that I could handle it full time.

I would absolutely love to be a stay at home mom. My 4 sisters and I grew up with my mom home all the time, i couldnt' imagine it any other way. When i was little and people would ask me what i wanted to be when i grew up I would say 'I want to get married' With house prices on long island, we might have to move away to do that, but we'll see what happens.

Part of me would like to, but I also feel that I've invested so much time/money in my education that it would be a shame not to use it. Plus, I think I'm much better being a lawyer than I would be as a stay at home mom. It really is a tough job.

Same with me I was blessed with a wonderful Mom who was home was us full time. She went back to work when we were in high school and loves working. I just have such wonderful memories of going to parks, doing arts and crafts, etc.
I totally agree and respect the women who either do not want kids or continue to work. That is why I love the USA! Freedom to choose!

We get the same reaction. It's come to the point that I now say we'll wait to see what God gives us

I AM NOT ALONE!!!!! Whee!!!!!!!!! Some people (not here- you girls are terrific) have been really rude asking about our plans to procreate. FH's family is giving me a hard time about it, to the point where I am now rude back. I tell them he is not marrying me for my ovaries. the absolute WORST one i ever got was from one of his aunts, who took me aside and said if I love him, I will have his children. i cried for DAYS AND DAYS.
Kim, sorry for the thread hijack! LOL, maybe we should start a support group for those who probably (and I say that because you never know), will not have kids.

You're definitly not alone...people look at my FH and I like we're lepers when we say that we really don't think we're cut out for children.

As long as were okay financially, I'd like to until they're in school. I'm a teacher, so I'll still be able to stay home in the summer, and kind of be on the same schedule as them. If not till kindertarten, then at least until the youngest (if there's more than one) is in pre-school.

I want to definately be a stay at home mom becasue I remember growing up and always being with diffrent babysitters because my mom had to work and some of them were not very nice and some got abusive you have to be careful who you leave your child with these days and do a through background check on them.

I will probably stay at home for the first year and then go back to work. Eventually I will have my therapist license so I will do that at night once my FH is home from work. I have to work, at least part time or I will go nuts.
Here's to the women who don't want kids and are standing your ground Good for you! To many people have children thinking its a piece of cake and that they raise themselves. I work with their poor children every day and cry over it all the time. Not everyone is cut to be or wants to be a parent. Two of my best friends are staying childless and I support that decision fully.

I will be a Stay At Home Mom at least until my kiddies go to school.
After the wedding, I am quitting my job and finishing up my UnderGrad so that I can be PG for my graduation and then stay at home until the baby is old enough for school. Then I will go to school when he or she goes. Until #2 rolls around. I love kids and I would love to have lots of them but that depends on finances and stuff like that!

Nope! My mom was a doctor, and I turned out fine! I would want to do both, for sure!
