I have Bethpage Federal credit union...no minimum balance and FH has Roslyn ( used to be CFS) and they have no minimum....

p.s if you can get into a credit union like BFCU or one of the others, the fees are such are much better as well...

I have free checking at Chase because I have direct deposit and my savings account is at INGDirect.com which is has no fees or balance requirements and a good interest rate.

Federal Credit Unions usually don't need a minimum

We have Teacher's Federal Credit Union, no minimum balance on any account. And they all earn interest. Not much, but what the hey.

They never told us that they put a 3 day hold on ALL checks. What if I needed that money right away.

ohhh i see. when i opened my checking acct she told me b/c of 9/11 they hold checks for 3 days (i think), but only for the first month. but i understand that, it is frustrating. fh has citibank and has no problems with them.

I use BOFH, Bank of Future Husband, he has no minimum and the ATM is always open!!! I used to use HSBC and they are total jacka**es. Fees for everything, minimum balances..my favortie was when I had $3 in the checking acct (day b4 payday, of course) and they charged my monthly fee, checking fee and then had the nerve to cause me for an overdraft that they caused!!!

Most credit unions don't, your best bet is to try and get into a credit union, if you are a student or anyone in your family is you can get into teachers federal credit union...or if anyone you know works in a civil service position you can get into suffolk federal credit union...I don't know about any of the other ones though.

Definitely try to get into a credit union like BFCU, Teachers FCU, Nassau FCU. I think my minimum for savings is $1, no min for checking either. The only downside is that it's virtually impossible to find an ATM except AT the FCU. So, I used to pay $1.50 ATM fee + $.75 that the FCU would charge me for using an outside ATM.

Thats not good to hear! I was just thinking of switching over to them because they are so much closer to where I live than my current bank. Can you tell me why you're not happy with them? Thanks!

WM also has an excess activity fee if you have too many online transactions each month....found that out the hard way!!

We have had them for 3 months now and they are still holding our checks. Now they are saying it's the first 100 checks they hold, how much sense does that make?

that makes no sense whatsoever - i say switch to a credit union they rarely don't have fees and don't hold checks. hope it works out.
