Most credit unions don't, your best bet is to try and get into a credit union, if you are a student or anyone in your family is you can get into teachers federal credit union...or if anyone you know works in a civil service position you can get into suffolk federal credit union...I don't know about any of the other ones though.
I am with Suffolk Federal CU and its a $50 minimum, unless they ahve recently changed their policy! FH had Bethpage, lets just say for our mortgage they werent the easiest to deal with and I wouldnt use them again and our rate really isnt any better than some banks were offering!
But on another note, you can now join Suffolk FCU if you live, work in suffolk, its really easy to join now b/c they want to boost their membership! You no longer have to be with a union or related to some who works for someone who has a union, etc!
ETA, on the mortgage front, BFCU did have low FEES but their customer service was the WORST!!!!! We fought with them on NUMEROUS occassions and we know of at least 3 other couples who have the same complaints as we did!
