Does anyone else....

NOT want to change their last name?

I was thinking about it today. I was planning on making my last name my middle name, and taking his name (our last names are way too long to hyphenate). But now, I realize I don't want to! I loveeee my last name! Is anyone else struggling with this?

I'm a little sad about changing my name professionally, I keep imagining sending emails to be people and having them ignored b/c they do not know who this person is.

I am completely OK with changing it socially, on credit cards, etc. A lot of my friends call me by my last name and they probably will continue to once I'm married...

So I guess I am torn...

I always said that I can't wait to get married and change my last name (I don't hate it, i used to though as a kid... it was too hard to have an italian last name and a first name that nobody could pronounce correctly for some reason -- Jocelyn is not that hard!!!)

Anyway, I don't LOVE his last name, but I'm excited to change it, for two reasons: the cohesiveness of our future family and for my childhood dream!!!

My sister didn't change her last name, though...

I am also having a hard time deciding! I don't love my last name (I am not attached to it) but for work, I think I want to keep my last name. It is a difficult decision...marriage changes a lot of things LOL

i had dreams of meeting a man with a cool last name like o'kelly or houlihan or ... one of my friends married a guy with the last name sparkes. so jealous.

i'm not beyond the idea of just chaning my last name to something awesome on my own. screw FH.


i want my name to be like... 'becki mclolzalot'

or ... finnigan. or kissinger.

ugh.

ugly german last names.

An old friend of mine from grade school and her husband changed their last names when they got married. Just came up with a new one altogether... Ocean... It had some significance too, I think....

No problem coming up with something so long as FH agrees (if you're both doing it!!!)

OR you could always change it to Princess BananaHammock (or CrapBag!!!)

i HATEDDDDDD MY NAME.. 1st and last my entire life.


i still hate my 1st name...but i loveeee my last name. but im changing it. at the city clerks office yesterday im like ok babe im hyphenating it. hes lke ohhh god u lesssbian. r u serious??

so im like whatever dude. it will still be hyphenated when i can... but im taking his name lol wompwompp

I'm not thrilled about it but I'm doing it....

i've always hated my last name. unfortunately his isnt much better, but marginally so so at least it will be an improvement!

i start a new job in may and i think im actually going to start going by my married name right away so that i dont have to change it 6 months in....so that my email address and stuff wont have to change...

I really, really struggled with this. For political reasons, I don't really believe that taking FH's last name would be right for me. However, I do want us to have some sort of cohesive last name for when we are children, and I do like the symbolic coming together of two lives. Therefore, we are both changing our last names to a hyphenated form of both our last names. It will either be (my last name)-(his last name) or (his last name)-(my last name).

That's cool. When my sister had her first kid, they weren't sure whether to give him our last name or his last name... AND for the purposes of family cohesion (?) he considered changing to our last name.. (he had no ties to his dad at all), but 'colby' went better with his last name, so they kept it....

I like the idea.... are both your names long or short? or one of each?

i am taking his name....tho he doesnt care if i do or not, he finds it sexist that the woman has to change her name...lol

buttttttt........i'm a hopeless romantic, and i love the idea :)
