Me. I'm not sure what I'm doing yet. I think I might hyphenate but it'll be long.

Actually the other day when I was bridesmaid dress shopping some complimented my name. Stuff like that makes it so hard to give up.

I'm soooo torn. My last name has been mine for 31 yrs so its hard to give up. PLUS his family is insane so changing my last name means I'm accepting his family which I'm not too keen on doing. I have decided to change it but its killing me to do so. We keep saying he should take my last name but oh the drama that would cause.

I don't necessarily love my last name since I can count on one hand the people I've met who pronounced it correctly, BUT it's still weird to just give it up. I will take his but I HATE that you can no longer move your maiden name to your middle name in NY. I'm actually considering going through the whole court process to change it.

I really, really struggled with this. For political reasons, I don't really believe that taking FH's last name would be right for me. However, I do want us to have some sort of cohesive last name for when we are children, and I do like the symbolic coming together of two lives. Therefore, we are both changing our last names to a hyphenated form of both our last names. It will either be (my last name)-(his last name) or (his last name)-(my last name).

That's cool. When my sister had her first kid, they weren't sure whether to give him our last name or his last name... AND for the purposes of family cohesion (?) he considered changing to our last name.. (he had no ties to his dad at all), but 'colby' went better with his last name, so they kept it....

I like the idea.... are both your names long or short? or one of each?

Mine is short (4 letters); his is 8 so not super long.

I'm hypenating it. The way I look at it is I earned all my professional degrees and credentials under my last name and if I change it, he would get the credit! lol.

This way, I have the best of both. I can continue to use my name professionally and have his last name if we have kids.

I am planning to go through the whole court process. I never had a middle name, so I'm taking my maiden as my middle.

really torn...
i really want to take his last name...its just its associated with lots of negativity (his parents) so i am really conflicted....maybe hyphenate but then i worry about the kids....
