Does anyone else feel terrible for ...

Re: Does anyone else feel terrible for ...

The dresses I choose (three different ones) range from $89-$110. They have their choice of which one to pick, so I don't feel to bad b/c it's a decent price. At first the dresses that I picked were $298 without alterations and I felt bad, so I found some that were less expensive that I really like and that I know if they wanted to, they could wear again.

Does anyone else feel really awful for making the BMs pay all this money for a dress they'll probably never wear again?

My BM dresses are $100, and my MOH's is about $200 (plus alterations) and i feel so guilty!

I am paying for mine

For those girls who are letting their BM's use their own hairdresser/make up person, how is that working with your day of schedule? Are the girls getting ready and then meeting you at the reception hall (of wherever ceremony is)? Or are you all getting ready together? I'm doing everything at reception hall (getting ready too because my family is from Westchester) and FH and I are seeing each other before ceremony for pictures. I'm thinking I should let my girls use their own hair dressers if they want, but nervous about that would work scheduling wise.

You should start a thread with this question, it's unrelated to the thread at hand.

I was also worried that it might be a financial strain for some BP members so I made a point of telling them that I didnt expect a huge gift or any gift for that matter.

I dont have a bridal party but if I did, my mom and I had already budgeted so that we would pay for all the BM and MOG dresses.

I would feel very angry if I were asked to be a bridesmaid and then be forced to pay several hundred dollars for a dress I may never wear again. For that reason, I have never served as a bridesmaid. I would hate to make that imposition on anyone else for MY wedding.

As its stands, we are paying for the MOB gown and also I am paying for my fiance's mother's dress because her sense of style is quite atrocious!

this is why people ask to be i a bp..people forget that if u cant afford it or simply dont want to you can always say no...noone forces anyone to do anything

my girls paid for the dresses and were more than happy because they wanted to be part of our day..the same way i was happy to pay for my own whn they got married

True, but that doesn't mean they won't feel pressured into accepting and then later behind people's backs, ***** and moan about cost. Maybe itsjust me, but I was asked to be a BM once and the wedding was in Jamaica and I would have had to fork over $$ for a dress, makeup/hair plus a plane ticket - I frankly said no after careful consideration and she respected my decision (later found out 3 other girls she asked in our circle also declined to be in the BP). She ended up having her sisters and FH's sisters in her BP. I just wouldn't feel comfortable making that request for BMs, I'd rather pay for everything because its time/money for them to be in my BP.

there is nothing to feel terrible about. when you ask someone to be a bridesmaid they know that there will be additional costs associated with it. it is everyone decision individually to say yes or no. to be honest i would have preferred if one of my bm would have said no in the beginning due to the financial obligation. she drove me crazy during the dress picking process.
