Does anyone else think this is just not right (RE: TY cards)
Original post by lipglossjunky73
I'm the last one to go on about wedding etiquette, but this just doesnt seem right to me...
We went to a wedding in October, and we just got our thank you card...
It was just a card that was pre-made with the words 'thank you for your generosity, it was apreciated... etc Love, X & Y'
So, no signatures, no personal note, nothing.
I made a point of writing a personal note on EVERY single card - even for the ones that gave us $25...
Would that annoy anyone elsen, or am I being pissy?

seriously---they shoudl just have sent you an envelope with some poo in it...would've been just as klassy.
maybe some brides on here have done something similiar--but i have to say IMHO, if you can't just WRITE something on a card....you should be tarred and feathered!!!!! ppl came to your wedding and didn't draw a picture of $$ in a card, they enjoyed your day with you. that shiit totally pisses me off!
that was hystericallllllllll and sooooooooo well put....its so true no one drew a pic of the money they actually gave it to u....write something to say thank u ladies !! geez

i wouldn't care either.
i usually just throw them out - with the couple's picture anyhows - not even sure why people give me these things anyways.
Re: Does anyone else think this is just not right (RE: TY cards)
It would annoy me a little that there wasn't a personal note. I could care less if there is a pic or if it's a plain card. I know, we all know, how difficult it is to plan a wedding but I still think that the right thing to do would at least write a little note. Even if it's just a couple of lines.

I would be pissed. I actually got a blank thank you post card for a shower i went to from a friend that i have known since the third grade. this girl had a honeymoon registry where many people contributed to her two week trip to italy and she had the nerve to send blank postcards! she said she typed a thank you 'poem' and glued them on to the postcards. the poems obviously came off in the mail so everyone that attended her shower got a blank thank you postcard. imo that is terribly tacky, you have no problem accepting gifts from people, some very expensive gifts, and you cant take the time to hand write a personal note. i am not even friends with her anymore, b/c if after knowing her for over 20 years, she cant think of writing me a personal thankyou, obviously our friendship didn't mean much to her. she totally lacks class!

That would annoy me too. I am going to take the time to write personal Thanks you's and would definetly appreciate the same.

I love when there are personal touches added because I think it makes your guests important. I know it is a pain to address all the envelopes and cards but I personally think it is tacky. IMO! However, at least they sent you one. I have gone to weddings and have never gotten a TY. I guess we have to choose our battles! Don't give it too much thought!

I would be a little annoyed. We personalized each card - even for guests who gave zilch! They came and spent the day with us so we thanked them all and this was after the in-person thank yous during table visits which some couples think is enough

I wouldn't take it personally. After writing out 125 of those cards it was difficult to write something special in all of them when I didn't know some of the people.

I can understand being annoyed about the non-personalization . . . I plan on writing in all my TY's, even though I am the WORST at it.
As for getting the cards now when the wedding was in October, that might not be them, that might be the photographer. If they are a slow as $h!t company then it's probably their fault.

I would be hurt by this, I think it's soo rude, it took her 2months to get them out & not even a personal signature
Not sure if many of you realize but 2 months is actually impeccable time to get TYs out. By the time you get settled from wedding chaos, unpack your life and your honeymoon bags, choose a picture, have it printed and then write them out....
My TY cards are not ready and I got married October 14th. I will work on them and have them out probably the end of Janauary which is pretty standard for thank yous.
As for the preprinted, it's not what I would do, but it's a new technology thing. Some people may work 15 hours a day and had 350 people at their wedding. Who knows.
We tend to be WAY TOO HARSH on how people approach things. I recieved 20 Christmas cards that were pre printed, I didnt think those people were lazy and inconsiderate. Like some others said at least a thank you was given.
I mean would you really be hurt

I had the majority of my ty cards out from my e-party in a week - I'm not kidding - and I had 300+ cards to write up....
I had the bulk of my wedding Tys done before my HM, which was 2 mts after the wedding - personalized - even if it was 'thank you for your generosity - it was wonderful spending my day with you.'
I'm just surprised, thats all...
ETA: I also worked 10 hr days on top of that, and went to school 2 nights a week!

I also think that the pre-printed nothing written is the lazy-brides version of a thank you note. I just think that when people go out of their way to come to your shower/wedding and give you a gift, that you take a minute on each of them to write a personal thank you! I got a thank you from a shower that was printed from the computer and glued into a thank you card...and the bride told everyone how her mother did all the cutting and glueing...now , I teach Kindergarten and even THEy can cut and glue!! We never did receive a wedding thank you from these people (they married in July 05), or an engagement gift (they were at our e-party), and they are both in our bridal party...ok, im totally ranting...sorry!!!

I need to vent along with you. I was very close friends to a girl whose weddings party I was in. None of the members of the wedding party ever even got a thank you card. It became a joke with all of us. It just makes you realize the importance of really thanking people for their love and being there to celebrate you and your new husband.
Thanks for putting this out there. Hopefully people will take notice that a 'thank you' does go a long way.

Liza, it would irk me, too. At the very least, a signature. I had mine done in under 3 weeks...each one personalized. My hand hurt and I had to do them when I was exhausted from work and making dinner and chasing a 5 year old....but I did them.
Note to all unmarried brides: SIGN YOUR DARN CARDS AT THE VERY LEAST!!!!!!!!

Definitely RUDE! My mother sent flowers and a care package to her friends that lost their child and what she got in return (well, she did receive a verbal thankyou at the funeral but other than that...) was card preprinted with a poem and a 'thanks for the sympathy.' It seems people can't be bothered with personal greetings.
Maybe we should stop filling out greeting cards...just leave the preprinted sentiment as the only message.
it's common for sympathy thank you cards to be pre-printed. but in their defense, the person sending the thank you card just lost someone close to them and is grieving. that's very different than someone who just celebrated a great event in their life.
