We had the opposite also....got engaged in Dec and were married in July of the following year. Everyone does what is best for them....I personally think it is rude to comment on a bride's timeline!! It's like asking marrieds when they are having children or worse, when they will have children! It's none of anyone's business. Maybe those are the ppl who have no social skills and can't think of anything else to say?

We got engaged early 2007, and are having a 2010 wedding. At first it was 'why are you waiting so long' and vendors really wouldnt talk to me (florists especially). But by booking early we had our choice of vendors (halls, photographers, etc) and got lower rates.
Every January halls typically raise their rates so we were able to lock in 2007 pricing for a 2010 wedding

omg welcome to the club...so friggin annoying..I always tell people..if you anyone that wants to make a doantion to our wedding fund then we can move it up sooner! uggggh!!!...sooo annoying..we got engaged last xmas & booked June 2011..time's flying right by so people need to mind their business!! hang in there! xoxo

2 yrs is totally normal...Do these people know how much wedding's cost?? The next time someone asks- 'why so long', I would say-well, if you're going to pay for it, we'll get married next month!!
This is also the way I handle the situation. I tell people that if they want to contribute funds I would be more than happy to move up my wedding! Do these people not understand how long it takes to come up with the money for a wedding. We're not planning on going crazy and we're trying to keep it under a certain budget, but even a budget Long Island wedding is insane to save up for.

seriously!! We got engaged and when we got married it will be 23 months snce the engagement and forever people were like 'why so far away.' Someone even once said 'wow so far away, why even bother?' i was like really...thats what u say to somone?

Yes. Just remember one thing. People are naturally rude. I got engaged last Feburary. People ask me if we have a date all the time. My answer is 'When he clubs me over the head and dragges me down the isle....that will be the date.' No one has ever asked me if we have a date twice. lol

FH and i have been together 8 years(in Nov) and we got engaged 12-12-08 and we arent getting married till 6-6-10! taking sooo lon gis what we do best!

Why should you have to explain your situation? Whether its money or personal issues..you use your date for a reason and no one needs to know that!!!

we got engaged in March 2008 & are getting married in April 2010. (btw we will be together for 10 years by time the wedding)
not only did we get, 'Why a two year engagement?'
but we also got, 'You have been together so long & live together already so why a wedding at all?'
people are rude. just ignore them. or tell them that if they are willing to plan everything for you & pay for it then you will get married what ever day they pick.

out of all my friends, i was the first one to get engaged and the last one to get married.
We had the longest engagement out of everyone we knew. We were engaged spring of 07 and everyone got engaged summer and fall of 07 with a wedding to follow in the middle of 08.
We waited till last weekend to get married and i wouldnt change it for anything!

I've gotten that since DAY 1 of getting engaged and trust me it won't stop. FH's sister got married this year so even more annoying people said 'O! So you can't get married this year because of _____. That makes sense, wouldn't want to ruin her day.' And you know what, I wouldn't want to ruin her day but she was getting married in May and we wanted Sept/October. More then one person gets married a year (sorry that was me venting). ALSO, what I get still and I don't know if it'll ever go away 'you have so much time, don't worry about it'! SO ANNOYING! It's our wedding and I would like to plan without people telling me when I can't do things and that the wedding is so far away! If I had to do it over (and FSIL didn't think the world revolved around her) I would plan a wedding in 6 months TOPS...and if we were paying for the whole thing it would be VERY SMALL!

My long time live-in and I decided last month to get married. We didn't want a large wedding so we are getting married in December this year. When we tell people the date we have had a few people ask if I am pregnant!! (I'm not!)

Rarely post on here, but something is bothering after I haven been asked for the 4th time today. Me and hubby-to got engaged this past July and are looking at a Sept 2011 wedding. Does anyone else who is waiting over a year find it annoying when people ask what date and then say why so long?(if you are doing it a year or two after engagement.) Maybe it's just me, but I thought 1-2 was the norm to plan and 'stress' and financially be able to do it (me and hubby to be are paying for everything ourselves) or maybe I just needed to vent.
