I have an Acura CL Type S, which I absolutely love, and will soon be purchasing an SUV.
We have had terrific experiences with Smithtown Acura, and wouldn't mind dealing with them again. We have test driven all of the SUV's you mentioned and more, and have narrowed our search to the Acura MDX Touring package w/navigation, and the Mercedes ML 350.
At this point it all comes down to who will offer the best price.

since I have a Passat right now my next car (next July) will be a VW Touareg. Its the new SUV by VW. Its base for a V6 is $34 and V8 $40. They are VERY nice and have lots of nice features. You should test drive one. PLUS they are SUPER safe. I think they rank just under the Volvo SUV.

Where's the Lexus?
We are getting a GX 470 next month after looking at the Acura MDX. We just liked it so much better. The inside was so much more luxurious.
I've been reading all the reviews and discussions at Edmunds

Where's Smithtown Acura? I drove on 25 from Brown's Road to Landing Ave. and didn't see it.
Lisa I don't want something as large as the 470 and I didn't really like the 330 even though it has more cargo capacity than the BMW. I tested the Aviator and was a little overwhelmed by the size. The Beemer was cozier, but I've heard so many great things about the Acura that I feel like I should definately check it out.
Even now I'm leaning towards the BMW or the Acura. We'll test the Caddy for my husbands benefit...I think he's hoping he'll sway me. We might even test the H2 for fun but in reality, this is the car I'll be driving so I want something that doesn't make me feel apprehensive, which the bigger trucks do (I'll be one of those girls that parks as far away from my destination because instead of backing it in, I had to find 3 empty spaces together LOL)
I've been reading the reviews on Edmunds, Yahoo, epinions and Car and Driver but it's good to get input from people you 'know'

I didn't like the 330 either. Thats what we were originally looking at, but when I saw the new body style, I said forget it! We then looked at the Acura, my friends in laws have it and LOVE it. She said she's sorry she didn't get it (she has the Lexus 300). So, we went to Smithtown Acura, and they were soooooo rude to us there that we went back to Lexus for another look and lo' and behold my DH fell in love with the 470. I was hesitant at first b/c of its size, but when I test drove it it felt just like a car!
My parents have been looking at SUV's also. My mom's friend has the Mercedes 350 and said its VERY small and I have heard that there are lots of reliability issues . My mom drove the X5 and didn't love it. She said it was a very 'hard' ride. She's also very picky...lol.

My mom has the X5 BMW. She LOVES it!! When my lease is up I might look into that. I have the 330cl convertible now, and I think I want a truck next. I really like the shape of the X5, and it is soooo comfy inside! Oh, and it does not feel like you are driving a truck. It is smooth like a car. FI has the Caddy Escalade, he LOVES it!, but it's a tad bit big for me to drive..lol

I drove the Beemer and it actually did feel more like a car than a truck, but that might be because I had tested the Aviator the day before.
I wasn't a big fan of the new body on the Lexus 330 either so I didn't even bother testing it.
Lisa I hear you on the rude salespeople. That would be enough for me to walk out of a dealership as well, no matter how much I wanted the car.
Kim If I do go with the Beemer I'm hoping that they actually put a larger SUV in production. I figure if I adjust to a smaller SUV first, I'll be ready for an upgrade in 3 or so years when I have kids and I actually need the space. Right now it's just me and the dog so a ton of room isn't really a necessity. I just want something comfy, reliable and fun to drive.

Susan...well the Beemer is DEF. fun to drive. I try to trade with my mom every now and then..lol
Well if you want big, the Escalade is AWESOME too. It is huge though. Also very comfy and drives like a luxury car, not a truck.

My FI has a BMW X5 and We LOVE it. It rides just like a car. He has the sports package with optional triptronic so he says he drives like his Corvette did. V8 engine. The best thing about the car though is how quiet it is. We get on the highway to accelerate (the pickup is phenomental) and you can barely hear it. I HIGHLY recommend.

All the Beemers come with triptronic now. I have yet to use mine since I don't know how to drive stick..lol. But FI uses it when he drives my car. They really do have amazing pickup! ANd you are 100% correct about how quiet it is. A lot of trucks are loud. The X5 and the Escalade are both really quiet. You truly so get what you pay for.

Dont have any of these mentioned..but we have a Chevy Trailbalzer, and LOVE it. It is a nice size and cheaper than a lot of thise smaller SUV's

As far as the BMW goes, I'm not sure if I'll go with the 4.1 or the 3.0. Don't know if I really need the 260 horsepower V8. I only drive locally.
Sport Package is a consideration, but if I go with BMW, Premium Package and Climate Controls are a must.
If I go with Acura I definately want the Nav and Entertainment System. You get a lot more bang for your buck with the MDX.
Diane We didn't look at the Trailblazer or the Durango or the trucks in that price segment. Even though I know people that have both and are very happy with them, I want something in the luxury class because I want the plush interior as well.
