Rachel, I completely feel for you and understand everything you are saying. But why are you so anti-liberal?

I also wanted to say that it is pretty sad when we live in a country where saying that people take advantage of the system is an understatement.

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?

I'm not an eye for an eye type of person. I certainly do not believe by asking for the death penalty will make the lives of the families of the cops any better. Nothing will ever bring back their husband or Father.
I hope these boys do have their day in court, that's what the system is there for.
Yes, I do realize that the death penalty sometimes costs more than life in prison. Do I think that life in prison will do these individuals any good? NO. Obviously they had a choice in life, and made the wrong choice. Do I think an education will change them, no. If they were given a chance, an education and an opportunity do I think they would take it, no. I think they would return to the life of crime they're use to. Yes, they are animals.
I guess there is always a 50/50 chance. I mean, look at the real life story of 'Sleepers'. Those were 4 young kids, who didn't intentionally commit murder, but were convicted for their crime. Their life in prison was so HORRIBLE... 2 came out and returned to the streets and only to commit more crimes... and the other 2 went on to live a decent life. An attorney and a writer.
However, in the case of drug dealers and this particular case, the system can't just have the death penalty as a threat. They killed 2 cops. If proven in a court of law that it was the guys they caught, I would vote for the death penalty. I'm no one to judge and don't believe I have that right, there is only one Judge. I do have a right to vote and my opinion.

Well said Rachel

As far as cages for inmates, well I might sound harsh but when they decide to kill, rape or whatever sick crime they committed they are in my eyes animals and animals belong in cages.

I'm not lumping togather all people who have been in jail that would be unfair, but MAXIMUM security inmates are in there for D A M N good reasons.

I was going to edit- but I'll just reply again...
Thrilled- I agree with you.

Don't let others on this thread get you all worked up. I bet they'd be singing a different tune if it were their husband/Father.

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?

Rachel, please dont take this the wrong way at all. Granted Brian is NOT a cop, but he has to search for bombs everyday. Where does he do this, in the airport where rumors are running around like crazy that the airports are going to be a target. So eveyday before he leaves I tell him how I love him and to be careful because I fear that one day I am going to put on the news and hear Terminal has bomb and blows up in TSA's face. So he isnt on the streets protecting everyone, but he is in the airport protecting those who fly. He has to search luggage, suspicious looking packages, bags that are left on a seat, peoples bodies, etc...the other day he had to search an 80 year old man because he kept beeping. It was a stupid metal hurnia belt the old man was wearing. But TSA doesnt know this. All they know is there is metal and its beeping.

So they face the unexpected every time they look thru a bag.

So yea Brian is not a cop and yea I may not understand a cops partners life or feelings, but I face the same fears you do. Brian has to search for bombs and explosives and protect the nation from terrists getting on planes. So yea i dont understand a cops life, but I understand the fear and the anger.

Please dont be mad at me but I am just trying to tell you yea I understand

Rachel makes some excellent points and she has the right to her feelings. Everyone feels for people who have had unfortunate upbringings and most of us have probably helped them out in some way (volunteering, sparing change to a homeless on the train etc.) but there is no forgiving with something like this.

R&T – You say an eye for an eye is wrong and we need to educate people and not just stick them in jail yet you say that staten island as a whole should blow up b/c of these individuals. How does that make sense? Why should a community pay for what a small group of people did?

Ladies
we shouldnt start a war among each other in this thread!
everyone is entitled to their opinion and can state it but shouldnt yell at others for how they feel
everyone can feel the way they feel
some people are going to think an eye for an eye is correct and some will not
even in the bible they had an eye for an eye
eveyone should be able to have their own opinion and feelings though

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?

Thrilled, I can't even imagine what you must feel everyday being with a police officer, I think your post described a lot of it, and I have compassion for you and other women/men who are married to cops and others who put their lives on the line. I don't know how you do it....

Honestly, the anger is apparent on this thread (you said it yourself how angry you are) and like I said it's very disturbing to me. I never said no one cannot feel or shouldn't feel a certain way, when someone is killed everyone is going to have a reaction. I also have a right to 'feel' disturbed by what I was reading. I have a right to feel that violence and murder is not right. I guess my posts were not directly about what happened to those 2 cops, they were just general comments.

I guess I'll stop posting on this thread now. I'm getting the feeling that I shouldn't be posting on this thread since I'm not married to a cop, and I don't know what it's like....

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?

I feel that when this person or persons took away 2 lives, they gave away their right to live whether it be rotting away in a prison or whatever.
I do not think someone that could kill someone in cold blood like that can be rehabilitated and go back to society to live a normal life & pose no harm to others nor do I believe they deserve a chance.
I have no sympathy for anyone who could take away another life like that.

tammyjill...
obviously this is a serious topic.
If you're going to say Staten Island should blow up b/c they're all criminals... except my aunt/uncle whoever... IMO that's a stupid thing to say, especially on this thread.

If people act like animals, they should be locked in a cage, like an animal!!!

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?

Melissa, you have a right to be worried about Brian's safety at the airport, given the events of 9/11.

Nina, you absolutely do have the right to be 'disturbed' by the anger and rage I and the others on this board are feeling. Hey - that's your right as an American. But when you say 'disturbed' are you saying that my grief and upset for these men and their families, or my absolutely unmitigated fury that these a$$holes were arrogant enough to shoot two cops in the head from behind makes you uncomfortable? Or is it that I'm dealing with it unhealthily by venting all over kingdom come as opposed to hunting them down and shooting them back?

Please don't think I'm a mean or terrible person, but when you live with and love a cop, and your very way of life and everthing you hold dear is threatened daily and then your worst fears come to light AGAIN (the NYPD has lost 8 cops to perps since FH and I started dating 6 years ago today, not including the 23 lost on 9/11, 14 of whom were in FH's unit and 3 of whom were good friends. He participated in the recovery of 6 of the 10 found's remains, including one of his buddies), you get pi$$ed. And who the hell am I gonna get mad at if not the perps shooting the cops?
