Anyone that will shoot someone in the back of the head, and pull them from a car and leave them in the street, is an animal, and they should be locked away and left there to die, or put to death. Anyone that can do this is beyond rehabilation.
Edited for spelling.

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?
I think the only thing that bothers me the most is for about 2 weeks the media every single night has been talking about those killers who killed those bodega guys in ozone park and in brooklyn and feel they get a thrill out of killing. Every night that story has been on and these cops were on for 2 nights and thats it where these bodega guys that were killed in Feb are on every night.
That bothers me a lot.

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?
just seems like the media's priorities are not straight.
I had a concentration on journalism in college and I know I would be fired probably within a day if i persued that career. I couldnt handle the media's priorities and what they feel the public wants to know

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?
Rachel, I have to tell you that your post makes you my hero! I also sit here and shake reading some of these liberal post. You put all of my feeling into the perfect words. Everyone is entitled to their opinions on other people's posts, but some of the things on here make no sense whatsoever. I don't understand people that try to argue and justify something that they have no clue about! Yes, my husband chose this job and he chose to protect people and risk his life, but let me tell you something, if someone took my husband's life, I would volunteer to be the one to pull the switch, yes, it would make me feel extremely better. I don't think I would be able to live knowing that the fu$king monster that killed my husband and the father of my kids was breathing and being fed and 'educated' to have a 'better life' someday when and if he ever got out. There is no 'educating' these people to change. What do you expect them to become? They are pieces of $hit that deserve to rot in hell and if I can get them to hell quicker, all the better. As far as anger goes, try having people scream in your husband face about how much they hate him, calling him a fu%king pig, but then dialing 911 when they're in trouble. Try having the media all over every freaking thing they do that seems wrong and never getting the praise they deserve for doing something great. Try living with that everyday and then talk to me about being angry, otherwise, don't even bother. My husband made a huge arrest last week in NYC, he got an armed robber/rapist/attempted murderer off the street and I'm very proud of him. He had a gun drawn stand-off with him, his life was jepordized.... What, you guys didn't hear about it? It wasn't on the news? It wasn't in the paper? Oh, that's right, he did his fuc$ing job and got rid of a piece of scum...he did a good thing, who wants to hear about that? That's right, ****ing NO ONE!

Problem is also that if the alot of the public didn't want it that way, the news channels wouldn't do it that way.

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?
I usually never get involved in discussions like this but this one is hard to avoid. Sorry this is long ....
I just found out that one of the cops lived in my district & that his kids went to school here. It's devestating. I'm so sad for this. The kids will grow up without their father, they will never be the same.
On the issue ...
as a former NYC school teacher I saw first hand how violence, drugs, unemployment, prostitution, poverty ... etc, etc, etc ... effects the children. Watching them grow up, it was obvious to me who would 'make it out' of the neighborhood & who would succumb. EDUCATION is only part of the solution ... however, its a large part.
The other part is FAMILY.
Its the family that models work ethic. Parents who work beget children who strive to work. Family stresses the importance of education. If the parents care how the children are doing in school & take part in their education .... EVEN IF THEY CANNOT READ OR WRITE, OR UNDERSTAND ... they impart their values into the children.
Families who participate in community ... get involved ... have religious beliefs and raise their children with those beliefs are families who give their children the tools they need to succeed. Children need to believe that their life means something. That they can have something better. That they can go to college and have a productive life.
I've witnessed children, who not any older than 8 or 9 years old had given up. No family, no values, no education, nothing in their life to keep them from turning to crime, gangs, guns, violence, drugs. 9 years old.
By the time these kids were graduating elementary school, they had been in juvenile courts, were actively running in gangs, were sexually active, and were doing drugs ... even if it was pot or drinking.
By 17 ... its over. So sad. For innercity kids .. and I'm certain that that's who were talking about .... the INTERVENTION NEEDS TO START EARLY AND HAVE FAMILY INVOLVED.
I don't disagree w/any of you about the repercussions. Assassinating a police officer deserves the death penalty. But, I also agree that putting youngsters in jail just makes them better criminals. They don't get rehabilitated. If we want to help them, then we need a better system. Since we all know that That isn't a reality ... maybe we can look toward helping those who still have a chance to make it ...

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?
Well put, Christine.
And Shannon, I agree with everything YOU said, especially the part about no recognition for their jobs, only getting it when they 'do something wrong.' FH is getting a medal on April 9, along with a $750 cash reward from the NYPD for pulling some guy out of the East River after he jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge. Did we hear about it? Nope.
Did we sure as hell speculate and point fingers and make accusations about all 3 of those shootings that came right around New Year's Day? I have to tell you people, having lived in a few different cities in my lifetime, I can tell you that the way the cops are treated here is reprehensible. Where I'm from (Texas - can you tell? ) when a cop says 'Freeze!', you darn well better believe my butt is freezing. Here it's 'I don't have to do what you say! I don't have to what you tell me! You're violating my civil rights!'
One time a little boy walked past FH and I while FH was in uniform and he waved to FH and said 'Hi policeman!' and FH waved back and said 'Hey there!' and the child's mother yanked him closer to her hip and hissed, yes, literally hissed to FH 'Don't you DARE speak to him!' and then to the child 'We do NOT talk to them! Ever!' and FH said 'Beautiful. I'll remember you when I lock him up in about 15 years. Good job, lady.'

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?
Rachel, Congrats to your husband and continue to tell him ever single day how proud you are of him. Enjoy the medal and praise him. They need to get it from somewhere! Jerry is also getting one for this arrest. We are so lucky to have such brave and good cops in our lives. Is your husband stationed in NYC? If so, where? Feel free to vent to me whenever you want, us NYPD wives are in this one together! Try not to let ignorant liberal's fairytale ideas bother you too much. Like I said, no clue.....I'd like to live in their world for a day.

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?
let me tell you a story, did you hear about the back pack that was left in the mens room in terminal 4?? it was a dummy bomb because the real bomb was in terminal 4 on a seat next to someone.
do you know who had to go looking for it?? MY FI
Did you hear about the guy who was trying to smugle 10K worth of coke thru JFK, do you know who had to do the search my FI.
Did you hear about the hightened security, do you know who is responsible for making sure our nation is safe from so called terrists coming in, my FI.
So yea he may not be a cop and yea he may not be on the streets, but he is doing the same protection as the cops, he is doing the same searches, the same security and the same defending our nation and city.
Did you hear as of March 24 he is no longer working under department of transportation but as Homeland security. He has to go for his gun training and license.
He is a federal employee protecting our nation and our skies. Every day I pray that he comes home safe because he works in the airport and he searches thousands of bags a day and my biggest fear is one of those bags are going to blow up in his face
So yea cops got it tough, but so do everyone else who is protecting us from the bad people in this world
And dont say that cops get it bad, it was on the news today that a TSA agent in Connecticut was caught sleeping on the job. So that one individual's actions just ruined the reputation of the many thousands of TSA's protecting us.
There was also another TSA in JFK who was arrested over the weekend for extorstion because he was conning passengers that were traveling with a large amount of money to give him the money.
Because of those 2 TSA agents it now ruins the trust we the people have in our airport security.
So cop or not its a dangerous world out there and cops are not alone in the fight

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?
For those that propose education is key in preventing these people from becoming criminals, please tell me what type of education you are speaking of. My grandparents never got past 6th grade. But they knew right from wrong, never collected a dime of public money, and would never harm anyone, cop or not.
Is it so different now? That to ask that people have regard for other human beings is so far fetched?
So sad ...

Chippatrid – If I were you I would tell Brian that he doesn’t get paid enough money to go in and check something like that out. Let the bomb squad handle it. That’s what they are trained for.

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?
He has to investigate any suspicious looking packages and if it deems dangerous then his supervisor has to call the bomb squad. And they can not even use the word Bomb. I forgot what he called it, but its some 5 word sentence.
Same thing with people, if he deems them dangerous or carrying any dangerous items he has to investigate and hold the individual until the trained individuals show.
For example, the guy with the metal hernia belt he had to pull the guy on the side and have him take his clothes off to reveal the metal belt. IF this guy was carrying any bomb equipment he would get it first then his supervisor would speed dial the bomb squad.
I agree he is definatly not paid enough
He does everything first and then if the situation deems dangerous he has to notify the other parties that would be best to handle it.
He is basically the first to a scene to handle the situation and the crowd and the last to leave it to ensure public safety

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?
First of all, Theresa, I wasn't talking to you personally. I said 'ignorant liberals' a general statement. I didn't say 'Theresa the ignorant liberal.' So if you turned around and personalized it and took claim to that meaning you, I don't know what to tell you. But you don't need to be childish and come out and specifically call me ignorant. I never tried to pretend to know anything about you or your personal life, what you chose to share is your decision, but don't turn around and claim that I judge you, b/c believe me, I don't. Whatever goes on in your life is your business. If I feel like venting on this board about my husband and his job to those that understand where I'm soming from, that's my business.

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?
Chippatrid, I never underminded what your husband does for a living. I'm sure his job is dangerous as well and I'm sure, like cops, he doesn't get paid enough. But what I think the difference is in terms of us not hearing about the dangers of there jobs is this: I feel that we don't hear about what your husband does b/c it would start a panic. If we were told about all the bomb scares in the airport, no one would fly. The reason why we don't hear about my husband's job is b/c people don't care about the good they do. They only care about the tradegy in cops dying and the wrong that the bad ones do. As far as people sleeping on the job, those kinds of statements are exactly what I mean. We talk about the few bad ones and that's what we concentrate on....it's a shame.
First...I am a strong self-proclaimed Moderate Centrist!!
but come one...calling people ignorant because they are liberal??
I know you guys are upset...and you have the right to be...I am upset as well..The news went stright to my stomach...but remember its the liberals that get police raises!! they are UNION...socialist...left-wing...liberal...
and btw...execution-style murder...is a death penalty punishment in NYS...

Re: Does anyone know about the cops being shot?
Why are we name calling here?
I would first like to say to Rachel and all the other cop wives (and Chippa even though I can't figure out what TSA means). My grandfather was a NYC cop his entire career and I have great respect for the men in blue. And the women (like my Grammy) who sit up at night and worry about them.
True, I am not a NY liberal, but I am a MD liberal. And I feel very strongly that the criminal justice system, especially the JUVENILE criminal justice system needs a complete overhaul. I base this on my experience with my youngest brother who is a criminal and has received so many slaps on the wrist it is ridiculous. We need to be tougher on first, second and third time offenders, not treat them the way the UN is treating Iraq (Okay, you get one more chance...).
Please don't hate on the liberals. We don't all want to hug the criminals
I completely agree that jail is where these boys belong (if in fact the police nabbed the culprits). While I see T's point about how jail does not necessarily reform them, sometimes it is more about protecting society. And keeping people in jail who will execute other people over DRUGS, protects society, which is more important than one man's freedom. Especially when that man chooses to take another life.
There is something called the social contract that comes into play here. All people agreed to live by societal rules so that we wont have to live every day with the threat of someone killing us becuase they want to take power or food from us (like some animals do). But in exchange for our safety, we all give up the ability and right to kill others to take power or money from them. So when people break the social contract, then they need to be taken out of society to protect everyone else. If we didn't put people in jail, then everyone would commit crime.
But, really, why are we calling each other names here?? I think that jail, no jail, death penalty, no death penalty, we can all agree that the killing of these officers is a sad and horrific act.
