Does anyone know the process in order to get my Passport?

I got the paperwork this morning at the Post Office, but now what do I do? I've never gotten a passport before. Thanks!

Fill everything out...try not to keep crossing things out (my po had a problem with that, unless something was just up the rear of whomever was helping me!) and bring your birth cert and i think your license. I think my birth cert just sufficied.

When you get your pic taken , go to a CVS or walgreens, etc...its cheaper there!

Do this all atleast 12 weeks prior to going away!

HTH!

I'll probably go to CVS, it's nice and close to me. Do I need to bring the paperwork with me there?

To CVS? No, they just have like a Polaroid and they take pics of you. They'll take 2 or 3 and let you choose the best. Then you bring 2 copies of the same picture and your filled-out form to the post office, along with the money for processing. It does take 2-3 months to get it, usually. Are you going away soon? Where are you going (I love to travel - make me jealous!)

Ok guys thanks alot

No, unfortunately we're not going away anymore until our honeymoon We usually do 1 big vacation each year but we haven't since we got engaged just to try and save money We'll probably just do little weekend getaways maybe. I just wanted to make sure I give the passport process more than enough time just incase anything goes wrong because I've heard that it could take a while especially if it's your first passport, FH has his already.

There is also a plce right in CT that you can go to. The one in the city is very busy and you'll be waiting all day. the one in Ct is alot quicker. And you get it the same day.

TIP: for those of you going to wait until spring summer to do it.. when the lines get crazy and I know my post office only does them at certain times...

I went to my local town hall with everything filled out. Took me about 5 minutes.

It worked out great because everytime i went to the PO the lne was crazy or they werent doing them.

Definitely faster...but also more expensive. When my family went to Italy the summer of 2005....Two days before we were leaving my mother could not find her passport. so we went to the CT agency. We didn't know we had to have an appointment. What they did was...they formed two lines...1 for those who had an appointment and another for those without appointments. You had to show them your itinerary to verify that you are traveling within the next day or something like that. The doors opened at 9 and we were out of there by 12:30 with the passport!!!! It was like $150.

you can get your passport the same day, ive done it 3x...you make the appointment over the phone like 2 weeks ahead of time...its annoying bc you are there for hours but you get it the same day

Melissa - you dont need to worry about having your passport the same day...it would just be a waste of time. FH had to get his passport for the first time a few years ago and it didnt take that long. But you have 15 months! Plenty of time. Just go to the PO, mail it in...it will come when you least expect it. Dont waste a whole day in the city to get it when you dont need it urgently. I have gotten my passport twice and both times I had no problem, just make sure you have the proper documents. HTH
