Does anyone live WAY out east?

Does anyone live WAY out east?

My DH and I are born and raised in East Northport, we were trying to buy a house in this area (E. Npt, greenlawn, kings park and the huntington's) but not finding anything in our price range that doesn't need to be knocked down.

Anyway, we are starting to look for a house out east (Middle Island, Ridge, Miller Place, Rocky Point and Soundbeach)

Anyone from there or have moved there?
Like it or hate it?

Grew up in ENPT and now living in Centereach...it is different but not bad at all. I don't consider that WAY out east though. It's all in what you get used to and if it is worth the house then I would do it. Middle Country Road is my new Jericho and it is easy to get to anything. I just hate that I work in Manhasset!

I grew up in Port Jefferson, lived in the area until about 7 years ago when I moved to Oakdale. Now we are searching for a bigger house & my DH has his heart set on Lake Panamoka/Ridge. He loves that it is a bit more rural(he grew up in Valley Stream) & my son will be graduating next year(we won't change his school)& my stepdaughter goes to school in Lynbrook, so we aren't concerned with school districts for the near future.
I say go for it, I feel like that area is on its way up.

I also grew up in East Northport, and live in Coram.
I LOVE it out here. In fact I would like to move further out.
I do miss living in ENPT, but I like it better out here

I grew up in Hampton Bays and we bought our house in the Manorville/Mastic area.

So, I moved about 20 minutes West. I love living out east and hopefully in the future we can move further out east, East Quogue, Westhampton, Eastport.

if DH didn't have to commute to the city I'd want to live out East....less traffic and congestion with more property!

I live in southhampton/ Flanders. I would not even live here if i had some kids. It is very bad out here with the gangs. Right now i am want to try to find a house in sayville/ bayport.

I live in Patchogue (grew up in Merrick) and it is a bit different but I LOVE IT over Merrick. More spacious, not as congested. I can't stand stand going in by my Mom's on the weekend (except for seeing my family and my pets at home) because traffic stinks, etc. By me, it's such an easier ride to things even if they do seem further away.

If I had to live anywhere on the Island, it would never be in Nassau again.

Considering that you WERE in Westchester, yes, I'd say it's pretty far out there, relatively speaking.

We are also in Ronkonkoma-- I have mixed feelings about it -- But I do love its central location to the East End -- Not to far West and not too far East -- kinda right in the middle. centrally located to everything....

My MOH and her husband bought a house out in Ridge last year... they love it, she says the school district leaves a bit to be desired, but not bad.

So between her and my FH living on Staten Island (I live in Farmingdale) the mileage on my truck keeps racking up.

ETA: Ridge borders on Pine Barrens land, so you won't have to worry about over development.

Well, I live really 'Way out east' right now. We're in Southold but moving to Holbrook for a few months tomorrow and then, HOPEFULLY, we're buying a house in Ridge in the Lake Panamoka area - we just need to find out about some C of O's and then we'll try to sign the contract (I'm so glad to hear so many good things about Ridge!) It seems like a really cute area.

Spot12905 - Really? There's a big problem with gangs? We used to live in Southampton and actualy were looking at buying a house in Flanders. It sucks that it seems to be happening all over the place now.

Re: Does anyone live WAY out east?

Thanks everyone for your imput on the area. I want to take a ride out there on Sunday and check some stuff out and maybe stop at an open house.
I have gotton so used to my easy commute, I don't want a long one anymore. ( used to commute from E. Npt to Whitestone, Queen by car) now I work in Hauppauge (sp? Its to early in the morning). I love my commute, which is going against the traffic. So, I'm concerned with moving further out east.
We have heard mix reviews on the school districts out there, well really the Longwood school's. My DH's two cousin's went to Longwood and turned out great. Whatever, I don't have kids yet, so when we do and they enter jr. high or high school who knows how things could of changed for the better or for the worst.

My family lives out in Coram and Mt Sinai and they really like the area--- I dont think it is too far out at all and we drive in from NJ to see them all the time----

My mom commutes from Coram to Bayshore every day and she says it is not horrible----

ETA- My brother and SIL are selling their house in Mt Sinai if anyone is interested

I am from the huntington area and my FH and I just bought a home in Rocky Point (we don't close until the summer). Driving around I really liked the area and have heard nothing but good things about the school district.
