Since were saving we haven't moved in yet with each other. We are both at our parents house. We are probably getting an apt. together but I am not sure if i would where we would rent because i am not sure if i want to live in someones house apt. or move into an apt. complex. The apt. buildings are just so much more in rent than renting out of someones house. Anyone suggest an apt complex thats not too much money a month. We just need a one bedroom.

We don't live together and we're in a similar situation. Our plan is to get an apartment in May and only have the one year lease. We started looking at apartment complexes and I agree they are much more than a house apartment. I used to have my own apartment that was the top floor of a house and it was really cheap and included all utilities. I definitely want something like that again.
yea, it's def. cheaper to rent out of a home. I once looked at an apt. complex in Jericho just to see the price right off of Brush Hollow rd. and they wanted 1800 for a one bedroom and i don't believe that inc. utilities.

Re: Does anyone live wiht FH yet?
FH & I live in a complex and we love it. When we first started living together we rented out of a house and I felt as if I was always having to tip toe around. My landlord weighted about 550 lbs and his bedroom was right above mine so when he woke up at 4:40am he'd wake me up (FH can sleep on picket fence so it didn't bother him). Now in the complex I have a parking spot literally 10 feet away from my front door, if anything breaks I don't have to wait for my landlord to get home from work for it to get fixed, I just call the maintenence room. Complex living was a much better choice for me and FH. I have pics in my album.
But then again...to each his own!

I know the rent would be cheaper in a house. I was looking then stopped because the house apts. that i looked at were either too small for two people or it was kinda runned down. I also found that a lot of house apts. i would call and speak to the landlord and when they would hear it was for a couple they were like 'no we only want a single person living here'.
i rent in a person's house, i would suggest this over a complex cause if u are good tendants there less likely to raise the rent. but it is very frustrating we looked at tons of places and there run down or not what we were looking for.........but in newsday we found a very nice apaerment!! its frustrating but keep looking u'rll find something! theres pics on my albaum

Re: Does anyone live wiht FH yet?
After doingthe basement apartment thing...we now live in an apartment complex and we are both sooo happy. We have the pool, tennis courts, clubhouse, track, gym...all free to us. We have a nice 1 bedroom with washer/dryer/dishwasher and TONS of closet space...but most importantly....it is a LEGAL apartment and we have the same amount of rights as the complex owners. If something is broken...they HAVE to come and fix it and they do within the hour! I would not ask for more...it is sooo beautiful...I would go with a complex over a basement or someones house anyday!

I agree, me and FH will be living together over 4 years when we get married
We had an apartment in long beach for 2 years, and we have a house now for over a year.

i coudnt agree more. this feb will be 3 years of living together for FH and I....i couldnt imagine marrying him without living together first - even if you are together for years and see eachother all the time when you actually live with somone things change and its a totally new and different experience. luckily we LOVE living together and neither one of us can imagine still living at home with our parents....
our first apartment was a 1 bedroom that was in a house - it was the first floor and basement (it was two levels). we lived there for almost 2 years. last november we moved out and into FH's parents apartment. its downstairs from their house and its a 1 bedroom basement apartment - and its practically brand new. its a beautiful apartment and they cut us a break on rent since they know we are saving. i thought living downstairs from them would be annoying but they dont ever bother us and its not bad at all. plus i rather help them pay their mortgage than help a stranger out!
