does anyone NOT want a bridal shower?

Original post by Dee606

Just wondering if those of you who already have everything b/c you live with FH or for other reasons do not want a shower?
Please don't think i'm materialistic but my mom & I were talking & she offered to purchase FH & myself almost everything that we would need for our new home if I didn't want a shower.

She told me to really think about the offer b/c we would probably only be inviting a small group (about 40) to the shower anyway & we most likely will not receive most of what we add to our registry.... any opinions?

Well Im not having one for a few reasons...
1- I dont think many people will show..
2- its more money that we dont have to spend..

I mean, my mom said that if I dont have the shower she would pay for my HM..so I think its an even exchange

Its a nice way to unwind before the stress and all the formalities of the big day. You can also have a lingerie shower

i am looking forward to it, even though mine will be small...and no one from FH's side because they are all out of state...FH & I have lived together for years but i am looking forward to getting new stuff and more importantly spending the days with friends & family!

I definitely did not want a shower, but I got one anyway...my mom ended up doing a display shower for me b/c I didn't want to open presents and it worked out great. It was really nice to have all the amazing women in my life and my FH's in one room at the same time

I am refusing to have one: My reasons:

1. I don't have a registry. Please give me money. I can't afford to pay for the wedding. I'm in debt....and I have too many plates now. If I need something in the future, I will buy it.

2. I'm not going to remember who bought me a set of towels. No I won't.

3. If you want to buy me a gift, so that I really remember that I got something special from you (grandmother, godmother, etc): buy me something CLASSIC (and you know what I want...diamond earrings, a dining room table, a painting, a family heirloom).

4. Who will I invite? My family/best friends. They know I need money. I told them. They know that they should give me something small to remember them by. Why do I need another dinner?

5. I live with FH. We have 2 of EVERYTHING.

Stand strong, girls: we just ARE NOT GOING TO REGRET IT: WHY ARE PEOPLE SO INSISTENT?

i don't want one, but only bc the girls in my bridal party are driving me insane about it!!! It is supposed to be a surprise- but apparently there is a lot of drama amongst them and they keep involving me.

Plus, FH and I lived together for 2 years and we don't need anything

I am not having a bridal shower.

I do not want one either. I have been living with FH for about 7 years, so we have almost everything we need now.

I also do not think it is materialistic at all.

We're in similar situations then. My mom thinks it's more beneficial to me if I don't have a shower & she buys us everything we'd need.

So, today I told my MOH what my mom & I discussed & she got piisssed.

I wanted a small shower and thats what I got. We had maybe 20 people and got just about everything off our registry. We have most of our household stuff but we still got everything we upgraded and some added stuff too

I think its really a personal choice, if you dont want one you dont have to have one

Re: does anyone NOT want a bridal shower?

I have been living with FH for 5 years. We registered for some more top-of-the line items, most of which we received for christmas from family.

You can still have a showere and not do gifts! Or how about a theme shower like a lingerie party.
My shower was small 25 of my closest friends and family and the day was filled with love and happiness. It was wonderful to be with all these women that suppost me and my future marriage. For me, it was a bonding experience that meant the world to me, it wasn't the gifts but the time spent with each other.

If you are against a shower for the gifts, then why not have a ladies luncheon or afternoon tea, no gifts. DOn't give up the opportunity to be surrounded by the important women in your life that admire and love you and want to support you in your marriage!!

Good luck in you decision!!

I am not having one.....we bought a house and then got engaged. Since we needed stuff for the house we had an e-party and got a lot of stuff for the house. I don't have anything really to register for if I were to have a bridal shower. Also I would feel bad that people would have to give us 3 gifts.... 1 for the e-party, 1 for the shower, and then one for the wedding.... My mom is going to take me my fmil and my bridesmaids out for a lunch instead :)

I did want a shower, because I wanted a shower, with people making me feel special. Not because I wanted the stuff. Don't get me wrong, the stuff is great, but I still feel a bit weird about people giving me things. However, I kind of wish I had said 'no shower.' There's all this family strife going on about the shower (don't even ask! Weddings totally bring out the worst in some people--and the best in others.) Since we're having a small wedding, there's a small pool of people to invite, and with all the fighting going on, and a few friends not being able to come, I'm going to have a really small shower. It's going to be fun, and I'm going to get some good loot, because even the people who won't be there are sending stuff, or so I've heard, but still, I hate knowing people are fighting, especially over me.

i also live with FH and have everything I need except for a few small things here and there that are on our registry. i'd like to have a shower because most of my friends and family are scattered around the country and it would be great to have them all in one place to spend time with them and have people meet who haven't met before. i'm also hoping that if i get everything off my registry then, people will give us cash at the wedding so we don't drown in expenses!
