Does anyone really NOT

like to 'get together' with the in-laws all the time (sisters/brothers included)? Am I the only one?

Oh please, put me on that list, and when you're done, PUT ME ON AGAIN! Don't feel bad, it's totally normal to dread the inlaws

It does get a bit overwhelming at times. I just tell myself that theyare good people who love us and the day will end soon!

I don't mind now and then....but when they have 3 birthday parties and a communion in a month I dread it!!

Re: Does anyone really NOT

I used to like them ALOT! But, now they are so **** annoying! Questions after questions. AND, then they say there is something wrong with me and my FI because we dont' like to 'socialize' with the family. Hell, it's beach season!!

Mo, YOU are good. I'm so bad. I grunt and groan and whine when we have to. Like Jen says, ONE THING AFTER THE OTHER!! My brother's wife (who also doesn't have kids) says we should throw a party for our DOGS and invite EVERY SINGLE PERSON that is constantly INSISTING that we go to all these 'family functions'! I think it's a GREAT idea - invitations, guilt trips and all!

I don't mind once in a while but this every freakin' weekend nonesense that FH does is too much for me! And if we don't stay for dinner (that woman's food is toxic!) I get questioned about who will cook when we go home. They make me feel guilty, but its ALWAYS FH!

Rebecca, I KNOW!!! They act like we will starve if we don't stay to eat. Granted, I can't cook to save my life, but come on already... The ONLY saving grace is that FI doesn't like to go either. So, if we HAVE to, he ALWAYS makes sure, we're not there long. But, either way, we get the constant comments from the inlaws. Then, they say 'oh, when you guys have kids, we won't come visit with you, blah blah blah.' GOOD!

I am the same - it feels like every time I turn around his parents want to get together - maybe I'm just not used to it b/c my parents are in Ireland.

Re: Does anyone really NOT

Oh god, the dreaded 'Dinner Guilt'! I HATE it. We get it ALL THE FREAKING TIME! Jt's mother is quite possibly the worst cook I have ever come across in my life! There's two ways to cook according to her, boil it or fry it. No inbetweens....BLEH!

Re: Does anyone really NOT

I wish HIS family were in Ireland! I guess because we're both 'free birds', we don't like being told every single weekend that we HAVE to see someone in the family. I dont' mind once in a while, but all the time - and the constant guilt trips that go along with it. THEN, to insult me or roll your eyes at me when I'm forced to give you the details of what I've planned for the wedding... Ugh...

Re: Does anyone really NOT

OMG the absolute worst was at large gatherings (they had a lot of jewish gatherings the first half of the year) and his mom (MIL) would talk about us (look haw cute they are) and OUR wedding plans ...in my earshot..like I wasn't even there. that pi$$ed me off big time. Back in Feb, I stopped telling them stuff -def the 'need to know' theory worked

we don't get together too often and I like seeing them, so I don't mind.

Re: Does anyone really NOT

Helen, I've started telling them 'Oh, it's a surprise' whenever FMIL asks me ANYTHING about the wedding. She has turned into a different woman with this whole wedding. THANKFULLY, she's an excellent cook, but that doesn't mean that everytime someone farts, that we have to have a family get-together for it! Geez!

Re: Does anyone really NOT

When we get together my DH family does not talk to each other they YELL... I always leave with a headache....I love them all dearly... but sopmetimes it is just oo much...

eroxgirl Posted:

Re: Does anyone really NOT

that's another thing - my FMIL is ALWAYS screaming at her kids!! And they are SO BAD but she'll yell at them and then go out 15 minutes later and buy them toys. I don't get it, it drives me nuts to hear it though because its non-stop and half the time she's yelling at the wrong kid. It's just craziness. But I wasn't joking about the food - this sunday they had a bbq. Everything is BURNT. not browned, not crispy, BURNT. Tastes like coal. And forget about when she starts on the pasta. FH laughed at me the first time I went running for the bathroom after dinner -- he said 'I told you my mother can't cook.' Oh the joys of inlaws!

Re: Does anyone really NOT

Dh loves his brother so much and nieces and nephews that we do like to see them a lot...

BUT..BIL's wife is an alcoholic (sad...we are in the process of brainstorming what to do) and when she is sober I can talk to her...but when she is drunk she is UNBEARABLE!!

BIL also makes stupid comments about teachers...trying to justify that its nothing against me, b/c he is in the middle of nowhere

Re: Does anyone really NOT

oh, yeah..... i try to NOT get together with them as often as possible for holidays & such. It was getting so out of hand that we had to make a 'schedule' to evenly distribute holidays & such.

Re: Does anyone really NOT

I *love* getting together with FHs family. He has 6 brothers & sisters and I adore every single one of them...I do, however, despise the only other SIL and one of the BILs. And there are 6 nieces & newphews who are adorable...except for 2 who are devil-children. But cute, nonetheless.
