Re: Does anyone really NOT

rebecca, at least your FMIL screams. my FSIL just ignores the fact that THREE kids are yelling, screaming and being bad! my dad would have kicked my butt all over if we ever acted like that!
i'm sorry she can't cook. you can't even bury yourself in the food!

Re: Does anyone really NOT

In the beginning it was horrible! I was the first daughter in law for 3 sons. And we lived there to boot! Now I have a Co-SIl to share laughs with! My IL's are really good people and I have fun with them! We all live close but not toooo close. My SIL just had their 1st baby so she is getting a lot of attention now which is a very nice break for me!

Mo, I generally like my inlaws, but I don't like the guilt trips and the mandatory get-togethers! Also, I don't like being grilled. Like you, I have a favorite SIL - my brother's wife!

Re: Does anyone really NOT

me miss social butterfly, does not enjoy it too much, but I do it for my hubby. You would believe I am one of the most anti-social people you know when I am around them, but it is all a 2 way street, give and take. SOmetimes I feel as if they do not want me to be a part of the family, oh well too late now, their brother has made his choice. Then other times they are sweet as pie, who know.

Re: Does anyone really NOT

We get along great but my husband's parents lives overseas and his sister lives in PA...so we don't get to see them that often. I do make it a point to call them at least once a week though and have a great time when we do get together. My family lives 5 blocks away, so we do see them more often. My husband is a social bug...so he doesn't mind doing family dinners and functions.

I spend as little time as possible without it causing a commotion.

No mistake there minnie, I usually bring a book when I go along, its as if a silence comes over me or they have nothing to say to me. They are way older, I do not know if that makes a difference. Roger, my hubby is the youngest child and he is 38 so you know it goes up from there and he is #11. I think sometimes it might be me as well, but then when I try to get involved in their conv they are always discussing something that I cannot relate to or something I know nothing about.

I love my in-laws but I can only see them maybe once a week, same goes for my DH with my parents.

Fortunately for us we both come home late from work so by the time we finish dinner and clean up its already after 9PM. And he works weekends so I always end up at my parents house.

Scoop, I like the 'social bug' comment. I more like a social SLUG (EWWW)!

Re: Does anyone really NOT

His brother is great - I don't mind getting together with the rest of the family, but hate that there is no such thing as a short visit - when we drive in to Queens from LI to see his mother it's a whole-day affair - 12:00 - 6 or 7:00 and I'm not one to sit and visit for very long. One time she called to drop by when she was visiting her sister and we were in the middle of painting so she said she'd just stop for a quick cup of tea and a short visit - it was a 3-hour cup of tea!
