I find I am starting to wish I had picked something else. Yes, I picked my ring. It's a beautiful round solitaire on a cathedral w/g setting. But I am wishing I had chosen some side diamonds.
I have suggested in passing to my Fh that I add some diamonds to the side and he seems a bit sensitive about it.
Am I the only one here? Am I wrong to want to change a ring that I picked? I feel so bad about this.

I might be the odd one out but the only thing I would change is I would make my center stone a bit smaller. By like 1/4 ct. I tell people that and they laugh and make fun of me. But I am just so darn clumsy and it seems like it is in the way. It is not even that big like some people expect when I say I want a smaller one.
My setting is exactly what I wanted but my center is bigger and I like the smaller one since I am a spaz.
Fashionhag....I think it will pass. I am sure many have gone through this even if they don't post.

FH picked my diamond and designed my ring. As far as I'm concerned I would never change a thing, it's prefect. But FH sometimes wishes he bought me a larger diamond. I always told him and still do, that I woud rather have a perfect diamond than a bigger piece of crap. I have a nearly perfect carot and a quarter- that's just right for the size of my fingers.

Sometimes I see other designs that I like. Originally we went shopping for rings together and I wound up changing my mind a hundred times and confusing him. In the end I decided I really wanted him to be able to go and pick it himself. I told him I wanted a solitaire. And that was it. He told me he spent 4 hours at the place trying to find the perfect setting and diamond! To me its more of a symbol of his love and I wouldn't change it even if it was 10 karats.

Mine is very simple also and every once in a while I sort of wish there was more to it but at the same time, I would probably get sick of a bunch of baguettes or sidestones so this was the best choice for me.
You should pick out a diamond wedding band so that way you have the best of both worlds!

I deisnged my ring. It took 4 weeks, of getting it the way we wanted it. I saw my ring transform from raw metal and loose diamonds to this beauty I wear. I love my ring. I did not settle in anyway. When we started looking at rings, I had it in my mind I wanted a round or heart shaped, probably solitare or with one diamond on each side. My ring, nothing like I expected. It's all princess cut diamonds, center stone with three on each side. It's perfect in my eyes. I tell FH everyday that I love it!!

Nope...my fiance did a great job. The only thing I asked was that it be platinum, which it is. My center stone is pear shaped and it has two pear sidestones as well.

FH - see what it looks like with your wedding ring for a while before you make any changes...since it does change the look and feel of it a bit.
Either way, I am sure we will all change our settings at some point in the future...cause we are women, we change our minds, and are conscious of trends...so I wouldn't sweat it too much.

Soem thoughts from an old married woman..I loved my ring from the first time I saw it. My hubby spent every last dime he had to buy it for me and that meant a whole lot since he never had any money his whole life and practically emptied his bank account so I would be happy.
Would I like a bigger stone...maybe, brighter side trillions, maybe...a thicker shank, yes. However, people change and tastes change and I know I will evenutally change the setting. I will keep the old setting and make another ring out of it when I do it.
As time goes on though, buying a house and other expenses take priority. He got me the best he could afford and I love him for it. He knows I want to change the setting and he is fine with it...
Mine is a 1.10 carat round solitare with 2 side trillions set in a Tiffany handmade platinum setting. He did ok in my opinion without my help.

My diamond is his grandmothers - she gave it to us in a hideous (I'm not being mean-it was outrageously gaudy) ring after we got engaged. She told us to do with it what we wanted.
We could barely afford to have it set in White Gold - but we scrimped, and together chose the simple solitaire setting with just the diamond sitting high on an 8 prong setting. Classic. I love it.
He promised me that on our 5 year, he will add baguettes or anything else I want. I promised him that I would cherish it for 50 years, and then pass it on to our grandchildren or great grandchildren.
The ring might change shape, but the meaning behind it will never.

i glad to see that im not the only girl that picked her own ring. i love mine its a pear shape which i get lots of compliments on and platinum with channel set diamonds on each side a line of white gold. it looks like a scott kay ring

Not at all. I couldn't love my ring more. I still look at it (almost two years later) and get all silly. I can't believe how gorgeous it is.
Edited to add: If I didn't feel that way, I would probably change it. That ring is going to be on your finger for the rest of your life, you should love it!

I love my ring, I picked it out w/ my FH. I felt it would be a good idea that I decided on the style b/c after all I will be wearing it forever. Im sure yours is beautiful, but if you are that unhappy with it maybe you can mention to your FH that you want a upgrade in the future or even that you may want a different style in the future. Hopefully he will not feel hurt or flip out.

I also love my ring. FH has great taste and we did go to look at settings and shapes together prior to him having this ring made. I found out afterwards that he didn't like the way it was set (round center stone with pears on the sides) so he had the platinum scrapped and had someone else design the setting. I love that he put so much effort into making sure that the ring I received was perfect- and it is!
I heard that a woman looks at her e-ring 1 million times over the course of her life....I can believe it! So make sure that you love the ring.....hopefully, you'll have it for your whole life!!!!

Some people dont know about stones and assume because it is yellow that its bad quality when its far from the truth...then there are those who know about stones and make wise comments on how I must have forced Dh to get this ring...they rather have a house than a big rock

FH custom made mine....I would not trade it in for the world...Everyone in his family kept telling me prior to the engagement, make sure he knows what you want...I never told him bc I had so much confidence in him...Everything he has ever bought, I loved....Once I got my ring, I told everyone, there is not one thing I would change & there is no way I could do as good as he did....He is even keeping my wedding band a surprise because it was custom made along with engagement ring...He is just so sweet

I didn't choose my ring and it may not be exactly what I would have chosen for myself but I love it nevertheless. I wouldn't change a thing about it because of all the sentimental value it has.
If I had picked the ring myself, I might not feel as attached and might feel more open to changing it. But that's not something I would have wanted to do -- choose my own ring.
