Does everyone here really think that fondant tastes gross?

I kind of like the taste, and at WOTY, wasn't that fondant on the cake? My FH liked it and thought it was a little different from most cakes he's had.

I don't like the taste at all....buttercream is my fave!
Fondant def. looks prettier - but I just don't think it tastes very good.

I have to agree. Fondant tastes ok when it's just a small layer.

Oh, but ALL the cakes I love are fondant. It is SO much prettier!

i personally dont like the taste or texture of fondant, i love buttercream, but fondant is soooo much prettier

the baker who is making my cake told me that fondant is really sweet and if its really warm out or the humidity is high, the fondant sweats which in turn will make it sticky and lop sided.

I should just go with fondant because we're having dessert trays and a chocolate fountain. Plenty of dessert

They are prettier.

Most pieces of wedding cake are small so there won't be that much fondant on each piece so if you like them better, go for it. A lot of people don't like butter cream either (it happens to be my favorite type of icing but, others don't really care for it!)

I'm sure there are good types and bad types. We get cakes with fondant icing occasionally at work and the place they use has very rubbery fondant so I may be a bit biased.

I have the same worry about the fondant, but if you are going to have other desserts go for the cake of your dreams.

If you like it and are having other choices then I say go for it. I personally do not like the taste.

Go with what you and FH want. If you both like the taste of the fondant cakes, then do it! Their are plenty of other things (desserts) that your guests could eat if they do not like the cake. Do what makes you and FH happy!!!
