As many of you know we are having a destination wedding in Ireland. We don't expect everyone to head over for the wedding (we know its a lot to ask) so we are having an engagement party here in lieu of a 'second wedding'. I am trying to figure out a way to word the invites for the e-party. I want the guests to know that they are all going to be invited, but we understand that they all can't make it, so please join us for the e-party. ( I am also sending out my STD's with the invite) Tell me what you think:
On February 17, 2007 Two lives will come together as one. We understand not all can make it, but please come on March 16th to help us celebrate it! Join us for a Cocktail Party honoring the engagement of Callan ***** and Patrick ***** Saturday, March 11th 2006 Lido Beach Country Club 7:00 p.m. yada yada yada (you get the idea)

Re: Does this sound confusing?
it makes perfect sense to me... will these people all actually be invited to the wedding as well, with an understanding that they probably won't come? or is this the only invitation that many of them are getting? the way it sounds here is the first scenario, so I just want to make sure that's what you're going for. If it is, I think it sounds good!

yeah everyone will be invited but we know that many of them wont come (which is fine bc we dont want a big wedding!). I don't have a lot of family (close relatives will come). Most of my family (moms side) is there (Ireland) anyway.

Re: Does this sound confusing?
I think it sounds fine, but, I have a suggestion. I don't think you need to explain that in the e-party invite. What you can do is at the e-party make a toast to your guests and say how thankful you are that they were able to come celebrate with you as you know that most of them will be unable to attend your wedding in Ireland.

I think it sounds fine-not confusing at all-but I think making a toast might be good too

to me it sounds like you are saying 'We are getting married in february. to celebrate we are having an e-party in march. i know you can't make it on March 11, but please try.'
I dont think everyone will get that you are referring to not being able to make the 2/17 wedding

One question What't the March 16th date if the e-party is on March 11th? If that's a typo it sounds fine.

will this be sent out with the february invite?
if so, I would say something like we want you to come to Ireland, but if the trip is to far, then how about a trip to long island to celebrate our marriage.
or
Jack and Jill are to be married on February 17, 2007 in honor of their forthcoming nuptuals please come to PLACE for cocktails on DATE to celebrate their engagement.

I think this makes better sense. Maybe I'm slow, but the first wording, while really cute, does sound a bit confusin. Sorry

JPO-if you are getting married before the party here and this invite is for the celebration after you guys got married then it should state that you want them to help celebrate your new marriage.

Nope- we are getting married for real in feb 2007. His mom is American, so he already has a green card!
