The last time I had a bigger breed dog I was just little, and I'm wondering if you could help me. I have a 65 lbs terrier mix. Friday night she had a warm nose, and vomited. It was an all night thing. Twice she vomited up her food and what not, and then twice it was grass and leaves. Ever since then, she has been ocassionally 'wretching'. I don't know how else to describe it. If she lays on the bed, I hear her tags moving, and I look down and her thoat looks like she is going to barf, but nothing happens. Any clue as to why she is doing this? I thought at first she might have something stuck in her throat, but she has been eating fine, and everything is 'coming out' ok. I'm worried....should I be?
edited for spelling...

I don't know what it is, but i would take her to the vet to be sure. i saw on the news that there is a dog flu going around that could be pretty serious..
has she been to any parks or groomers or anything?

Nope. The last time I had her out to a park was the end of June, and this is just recent.

Re: Dog owners...
My boss' dog had the same symptoms and it turned out that the dog's stomach was, and this is going to sound odd, turned inside out. I would take him/her to the vet asap.

my dog (a 3 yr old shih tzu) does that craziness every once in a while. every once in awhile he'll walk around wretching but he'll get over it in 2 minutes. i just think he's clearing his throat.

She has recently started eating from the litter box as well.... I'm wondering if there is litter in her throat she can't get down?

Take her to the vet.
I have a big dog and it could be a few things:
1. I don't think it is her stomach inside out -- they don't live it isn't corrected in the first few hours. She would be pacing and crying -- not eating.
2. she most likely ate something that is irrating her -- probably a stick or something. YOu just want to make sure it isn't causing any damage internally.
3. My dog does the wretching thing all the time -- it is allergies
But i would let the vet confirm it.

Re: Dog owners...
ok...does anyone have a vet in suffolk that has any time of payment plans? I have a feeling this will be a $500 vet bill, and we just can't afford that right now....

there's a dog virus going around. Ollie had it 2 weeks ago. She had diarrhea and she was vomitting. We took her to the vet and he gave her some anti-diarrhea meds and antibiotics but I think she would have been fine on her own. We were told to take her food and water away until she had been 'clear' for 12 hours. Then feed her boiled chicken and rice.

Where are you in Suffolk? I am out here but we take my dog to the Bird and Animal Hospital in Baldwin.

My dog had somethign similar a few weeks ago, and he had diarrhea also. It turned out to be just a virus, and he felt better in like 2 days.

I'm just so confused because she only threw up for 1 day, but has been acting like she will throw up since then.

Have you tried Island Rescue? Its affordable vet care thats on Clinton Ave in Bay Shore. The # is 631-968-8700. Good Luck.
Is your dog throwing up foam, drinking a ton of water, not eating, has a belly that looks like its blown up like a drum? If not its hopefully nothing more serious than a virus or food poisoning. Good Luck.

my shih tzu does the same thing, I think small breeds do this to quite a bit. Makes me freak out every time!
