We have 8 mo. old husky, Maya. She has become the finickiest eater ever!!! She will only eat once a day, we used to feed her twice.
So my question is, at what age is it okay to only feed her once a day? I also heard that huskies should not have puppy food too much b/c of something that's in it.
Also, has anyone put Frontline on their dogs yet as the weather has warmed up a bit???

Re: Dog/Puppies questions - feeding and fleas??
I think that you have to feed them three times. I also asked my vet about the puppy that i just got 2 weeks ago. She told me the that she has to eat three. It may be different from your breed. I would say ask your vet about that.

We never fed her three times a day, we did twice but for the past month or so, she really only eats once a day and the vet says huskies are picky eaters and that she's not underweight.

I think her eating once a day is fine, if she needs more she will eat more. Not sure about the puppy food... maybe asking your vet if switching to a large breed formula would be better. Also I put Frontline on my dog all year round.

We only fed our husky once a day (I can't say for sure when he was young as I was too & don't remember!!). Also pretty sure he got plain old purina dog chow from day one (they may not even have made puppy chow then).
For ten years I fed Hershey once a day until FH & I moved in together & Bailey got fed twice a day ... just to put them on the same schedule. Max on the other hand does not know picky and would eat a hundred times a day.
I spoil my dogs, so don't take my advice too seriously ... but if she's content eating once a day, let it be ... if she was hungry, she would want to eat the other meal. And maybe if you are worried - supplement with a couple of treats throughout the day ...
good luck!

My dog is on Revolution (year-round) rather than Frontline. We've had no problems!

Is your dog more of a large-breed dog than small-breed dog? If so, it's not really good to feed them a lot at one time. You should try to split it to two times a day if you can. What kind of food is he on? Some dogs are just picky eaters.

Re: Dog/Puppies questions - feeding and fleas??
I asked my DH this question (he's a vet.).
ALL DOGS should be fed twice a day, especially MEDIUM TO LARGE BREED DOGS because they tend towards obesity and there is a higher predisposition to bloating (that is possible turning of the stomach on itself with torsion, this can result in death of the animal).
If the dog is only eat once a day, then you should fed the dog less, so that the dog is hungry later in the day.
Should not be fed people food or canned food, because it builds tarter on the teeth and cause gastrointestinal upset and pancreatitis.
The ticks are out now because it is warmer, you should start the Frontline immediately.
You should see your veternairan to see if Frontline, Revolution or Advantage is right for your pet.
We recommend Iams, Eukanebua or Science Diet, based on the dogs size (small, medium or large breed). Gradually ween them into the new food, no irratic changes. These brands of foods have a higher plane of nutrition. Good Luck

Yeah, I forgot why it's bad for medium/large breed dogs to eat only once a day. I've also read about bloat. That's caused too by a dog drinking too much water right after they eat b/c the kibbles expand in their stomach then from all the water.
I have my dog on Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's soul, and he loves it. But every dog is different with what food they like, so perhaps you should think about starting to try to mix in a different food to see if he'll like something else better.

We feed her science diet puppy dry mixed with crap can food in b/c she won't eat the can science diet at all anymore, which we used to mix with the dry. Vet told us to use frontline, just didnt' know if I should start putting it on her now that it's warming up a little. She eats absolutely no people food.
