Dogs in Wedding?

Anyone else planning to have their dogs be in their wedding? FH and I live together and our two standard poodles are our children! I really want them to be our little ring bearers. Anybody else going to try this??

Re: Dogs in Wedding?

that's a great idea. i was just going to try to do little bow ties for them with a nice lead, but the tux is cute. they have pretty long hair so i am not so sure that a tux would fit?! hmmmm...

Re: Dogs in Wedding?

After our ceremony we came back to our condo and took some photos with our kitty but I personally am not a fan of animals walking down an aisle. Many churches will not allow it anyway. But just consider that there are A LOT of strangers around them, a lot of things going on and you will not be able to stop your ceremony if one of them starts to bark or need you for something. But take photos with them!

Re: Dogs in Wedding?

My dog is also like a child to me, I even sleep cuddled up with my Maddie every night. However, I do not think there is a reasonable way to include her in my ceremony. I do plan to have our photographer take pictures of me with Maddie before I leave for the wedding.

Re: Dogs in Wedding?

ME ME ME! He is going to be the ring bearer :) I'm going to get him a nice little bowtie with a ribbon tied around it with the rings. Our Reverend is going to bring little scissors to cut them off. I'm soo excited! I still have to work out a few details but I have plently of time!!

Updated to state that we are getting married outside so the location will not be a problem.

Re: Dogs in Wedding?

JoRo: if you can do it I say go for it!! I asked my priest the day we spoke to him and he isn't allowed. All our guests know how important Benji is to us-he is our child. He goes wherever we go. If I could take him to a restaurant I really would! It would only make sense to have him be a part of our wedding. Plus my mom's dog is special to me too. So since he has been nixed, I am dressing him up with a tux, my moms shi tzu with a tiara and flowers on her collar and taking pics with them.
FH is upset that he can't be there. If we can squeeze some time, we are stopping by my house for him to take pics with them.

Re: Dogs in Wedding?

oh i am so glad other folks are doing this! I definitely understand the reasons not to, and I am going to be extra careful that the pups don't get overwhelmed (I agree that it is a lot of people). But we are getting married outside (pray it doesn't rain) and the site has already said it was okay. Everyone will be sitting by the time the dogs come out so there shouldn't be soo much comotion. I think the trick will be to find someone (or maybe hire someone) for the ceremony whose only job will be to take care of the dogs, that way we don't have t oworry. CW0904, so sorry that yours can't be involved, but they wwill be there, especially if you can take pictures with them!! maybe someone can bring them to meet you where ever you are doing photos after the ceremony?

Re: Dogs in Wedding?

Jenn those are the cutest pics!! You gave me ideas for my little ones!!
We will probably go to my house to avoid the dogs being with someone they don't recognize. My parents dog isn't accustomed to being around strangers. So we will have to go to my house so that FH can take some too.

Re: Dogs in Wedding?

JORO...that's what I'm going to do. I figure I can ask one of my sisters friends (i'll pay her) to take care of Neko (my pup) the day of the wedding. She will bring him to the ceremony and take care of him during then bring him back to my mom's after pictures. If it does rain then I won't have him in it. So, I'm praying for a nice sunny day as well! Good luck with the pups!

I love this idea, but what do the Churches or Reception sites say? Are we allowed?

Re: Dogs in Wedding?

I think that it is a great idea based on one condition (similar to discussions of flower girls and ring bearers). Are you ready to share the spotlight? Keep in mind that your usually well behaved pooch may decide to pee on an aisle stand, or see a squirrel, or decide to lick you know where in the middle of the ceremony. If you are the type of person who will find that extremely funny, then I say go for it, and I'd love to be a guest at your wedding. hehe. However, if any of these possibilities would cause you great embarassment, then beware!

Re: Dogs in Wedding?

I'm not doing it, but was in a wedding where the couple's Rottweiler was the ring bearer. He was so good, it was adorable, he wore a tux and a little pillow on his collar. I loved it
