Dollar Dance?

Dollar Dance?

Has anyone ever heard of this, i saw it at a wedding and thought it was so cute. Guys and girls line up to dance with the bride and the groom for a short time(20 seconds), they must pay a dollar to the bride and groom. I thought it was adorable, do you think people may think its tacky or cute. I thought it was cute but thats just me!

I went to a wedding about a month ago and I was so shocked seeing this dollar dance. The MOH and held a hat and the men put $ in to have a dance with the bride and the BM held a hat for women to dance with the groom. Most people were forced by the BM and MOH to dance with them. I found it VERY tacky, sorry!

Plus it went on way too long.

I think it depends on your friends and family. I've seen it done and didn't think it was that tacky. Just keep the song short so it doesn't take forever.

i think it's a greek tradition. not positive though.

if it's a cultural thing, go for it. if it's not, i don't like the idea

To me it sounded 'tacky', however I found out it is a tradition in the south and the midwest. A few of my friends from college said it is quite common. So I won't say it is 'tacky' because to them giving cash for a wedding gift is 'tacky'. Personally I would never do it.

I know it's pretty popular in the Midwest. Fi and his family were expecting it at our wedding, but I told them it's not something you see often on the east coast. Most of our guests are from NY, so people might be confused.

Truthfully, I think it's tacky- but I'd never admit it to my in-laws.....

I gotta agree. I've heard of it- I think they were talking about it on Z100 one day. I agree that it's kind of tacky. I've heard of guests pinning the dollar onto the brides dress. No way anyone is doing that to my dress!

Re: Dollar Dance?

My family has done it and they are also from the midwest and I loved the idea. I thought it was a great way to say hello to everyone instead of you going around to all of the tables. The difference here is that people pay alot more for a wedding on LI so the gifts are a lot more and some people may not like the idea that you are looking for more. I was thinking of a way to incorporate it into my wedding without asking for the money this way I will never have to leave the dance floor and none of my guests feel like I ignored them....I will keep you posted

haha, funny topic, a lot of my family is from Maine, and my cousin just got married in June and my grandmother told her she better not have the dollar dance...lol i do think its incredibly tacky imo.

When FI first mentioned it- I looked at him cross-eyed and said, 'Don't you think it's like it's pimping out your wife....?'

Thankfully our DJ explained it's not really a NY thing and that closed the deal....

Fi is still refusing to budge on the Hokey-Pokey, though

I went to a wedding that had a dollar dance. It was definatly a culture thing, it was a tradition for them. Because i knew nothing about it, i felt that it was tacky. Plus, you have people reaching into their pocket once more. I also think it makes people feel uncomfortable, because no one is not going to do it cause they will feel like the bad guy for not, you know what i mean?
