noooooooo. i think the dollar dance is so tacky. you're asking people for EVEN MORE money... after they gave you a gift in the envelope. i was at a wedding once... and i had no cash on me... and i looked and felt like such an *** for not going up and sticking dollars in the brides dress.

i would never wanna do that to my guests!!!

just my opinion!!!

I was going to post almost the exact same sentiment. It's not my thing. My guests are already spending $$$ to be at my wedding, I don't want them to spend any more.

None of those dances will be played at my wedding. Just Shout. When everyone is drunk. No macarena, no dollar dance, no cotton eye joe, no cha cha slide, no electric slide... nope, I hate them, I think they are for a sweet 16 (although the last sweet 16 I was at they didn't play it any of them either), and if I hear them, I will be soooooooooooooooooooooo pissed.

ITA, these songs will not be played at my wedding either, and even if they are requested I dont care lol

This may be a dumb question but...what exactly is the dollar dance? I've never seen one before.

I think it is popular in Latin American cultures. Basically all of the men at the reception 'pay' to dance with the bride. it used to be customary to give a dollar, but I think most people give $10s nowadays. But they pin the money to your dress YIKES - people putting pins in my dress is a big No No No!

FYI everyone else, we are not talking about the '1 cent, 5 cent, 10 cent, dolla' song that everyone dances to.....

I don't think it is tacky. it is just a custom. No different than how people throw money on the floor for greeks or how we toss the garter and boquet.

you're right... if it's a custom... then do your thing. but the wedding i went to that had it, it wasnt a custom... the bride just wanted to get more money out of people, and it was cash, so she spent it on the honeymoon. maybe thats why i have a sour taste toward it. lol

sorry if i offended by calling it tacky. that was not my intention

In that case it IS tacky. Kind of like those 'money trees' my aunt put out at the anniversary party she threw herself. She was like 'I spent so much money on this party I was hoping to get some back'

I am pretty much against anything where people are blatantly like 'give me money.' Accepting a gift from people should be enough.

ITA: I was at a wedding last year, where they played 5 songs for ppl to dance with the bride and groom... in my opinion that is a waste of good dancing time

Ugh! I know! My family is driving me nuts about this. They want the electric slide? Can we say hello 1985? There is no way! My mom said she's gonna slip the dj some $ so he'll play it. Like that's going to happen!

I was at one last year and there was a line for people to dance with the bride and the groom, the MOH and BM were collecting the money while the bride and groom danced with each person for about a minute each. It took about 5 songs for everyone to complete dancing. Everyone else had to stand around...

It takes too long and does seem like all they care about is money and not about you enjoying your special day with them.

Ugh, that song is sooooo bad...that and cotton eye joe...what a horrible redneck song....blah and cha cha slide 'Get Funky!'??? Are you flippin serious? And the worse part is people have the the dances 100% memorized and try to make it look GOOD, but they look sooooo special...

Re: Dollar dance ...

I think i would run out of my reception if they played 'Cotton Eyed Joe'

The only 'group' song I must play is 'Shout'.
My dad looooooooooves it. Its the only song he wants to hear.

I haven't been to a wedding with a Dollar Dance before, its just not common in my circle. I don't think its tacky if its a custom your group is familiar with. I know that everyone likes to get a chance to dance with the bride.
