Re: Dollar Dance?
haha. i love how nice you actually called it - 'dollar dance'. we call it MONEY dance.
it's definitely a tradition/cultural thing! the couple just dances and guests will come up at anytime during the dance and they would pin the money to the dress. usually the first to put money in are the parents who normally 'dresses' up the money - say they do money origami so it'll look like a nice necklace or crown like in this photo.

im from PA, and this is exactly how ive always seen it done too. Also, one of the groomsmen is standing there with a tray of shots to take when your done with the dance. Where in PA are you from?
Yeah, I've been to one where they do the shots! (My Dad thinks this is the best idea ever... I'm not sure how it will look to FH's family, hahaha).
I'm from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area... NE PA. You?
I live more NW PA in a town called Ebensburg...it's kinda in between Altoona and Johnstown if that helps

I've read that it is a Polish tradition.
My best friend from HS who moved to PA and had her wedding in Syracuse NY did this at her wedding but they didn't pin stuff to her, her MOH collected the cash in a basket. I had never heard of it before but apparently they do it in the HErshey area cause her DH is from Reading.
The Greek dollar dance is a little different I think, and the money goes to the band....

I'm from PA and it's a long-standing tradition in my family. In fact, I've never been to a PA wedding without it. I was always told it's a Polish thing (I'm Polish), but I know other nationalities do it as well. In PA, only the bride does it though... then all the people form a circle around her and the groom has to break through to get to her. It can get kind of crazy! haha
My Dad lives 45 mins from Harrisburg.. in Lykens...when I drive to see him the Wilkes Barre exit is about halfway through my trip so I stop to get a cream cheese pretzel from Wawa since we don't have them here!

Aw, I LOVE Wawa! Although, that really comes from living in Philly for 4 years, where Wawa is KING.

Yeah, we don't do the pinning either. The MOH holds out a bag. And in the Polish tradition, the bride wears a white lace babushka (handkerchief type thing) on her head! I have pictures of my mom doing at her wedding, and every single one of my friends from PA has done it, so I HAVE to do. FH's family is going to think we're nuts though.

I'm Polish too My Grandma and my mom used to put a babushka on me when I was little, to cover my sponge curlers at night

Hahaha, cute! My mom is FREAKING out because she doesn't know where to buy the lace babushka. She's like, 'Shouldn't they sell that at bridal stores? You should look for one!' I said, 'Yeah, mom, I'll just browse the bridal babushka section... I'm sure they all have one...'

Re: Dollar Dance?
So for everyone who laughed at the dance or never heard of it, they make babushkas marketed specifically for this purpose!
