We are deciding between these two for our honeymoon... anyone been to any resorts at either that you would recommend to us? So far my travel agent has given me the following resorts to look into:

We are trying to keep it under 3500 for 6 nights all inclusive. We def want a place with good food and the option of excursions (tours, boat rides, catamaran, etc) and prefer adults only (or at least don't want little kids running around screaming lol).

I stayed all resorts catered to honeymooners.
Live Aqua adults only not really any entertainment on the resort but directly on the cancun strip but food was out of this world. Seriously amazing absolutely gorgeous resort.
I do alot of research on hotels before I go and there's the more upscale hotels in cancun that I think u should look into. Excellence Playa Mujeres Live Aqua Cancun The Royal Cancun The Royal Playa Del Carmen and I agree Secrets Resorts are great for honeymoons.
As for DR, I stayed at Dreams Palm Beach I absolutely loved it. It's closer to the airport then Dreams Punta Cana but you can't go wrong jus dont think you will get crystal clear waters like you would in Cancun nevertheless both countries have their charm.
I might also suggest u look into majestic elegance this an adult only resort in DR I know someone who went on a honeymoon here and had an amazing time. Ask ur travel agent about this resort.

I am going to Secrets Capri in September for a quick stay---its a smaller resort, but the service, food & beach are great there!!! Check out Secrets Maroma --the beach there is UNREAL and you get the good food & service that Secrets provide--may be a little bit out of your budget-maybe not for 6 nights. A lot of honeymooners go to Excellence Playa Mujeres, however the beach there isn't as good. Also, check out El Dorado Maroma. The beach in Maroma, in my opinion is the best! Dominican Republic hands down, food is amazing! My family is from there although I was born here, I visit there every few years and want to bring FH there. I think it's a perfect honeymoon place. ( the Mexico water thing freaks me out) I know that resorts are filtered but just a thought.

I will say the service in DR is absolutely incredible, I don't think I've ever been on vacation and have had a stress free experience. Everyone us happy to help and friendly.

We are going to excellence playa Mujeres for 8 days !! It had the best reviews! Also you can take a day trip to isla Mujeres which is right across from the island. My second choice was secrets maroma but I kept reading reviews about mosquitoes being really bad there and I didn't want to deal with that (supposedly it's by the rain forest so that's why)
