My grandfather passed 3 years ago from Lung Cancer - and I think it's a really nice touch - although I've heard different things from others...

I love the idea...for those who may think it's 'cheap' (as I heard someoe say once)they are selfish, ignorant, spineless human beings. ARHHHH it makes me so mad!
no i dont think that its 'cheap' - however, i donate a lot of money to charity throughout the year - i want my favors to express thanks to my guests s its just not the time or place for me to advertise a donation - JMO - NHF
To each their own, favors are great! This is just another way of doing it ...but i think for people trying to remember loved ones etc.... its not 'advertising a donation....' everyone ive told in my family about it thinks its a fabulous idea and are thankful im remembering their loved ones as well... LOL im thanking my guests for coming and celebrating my day by giving them unlimited top shelf liquor, a great dinner and a huge party!

I think its so nice! We were thinking of doing that too because my godmother has ms and we would rather give the money to fund a cure than give out dust collectors.

We are donating to charity as well. I love this idea. With all the weddings I've been to... at this point i've started to give the favors ( wine stopper, letter opener...ect.) away to friends..lol I have no more room for any ,more favors.

Re: Donation favors...
I just look at a donation as something good ...Im the one who either leaves the favor on the table or throws it out in most cases..I know its horrible but its the truth,,.,,Id rather donate to a good cause then spend money on something most people wont keep anyway

I know how you feel. We're giving out Waterford crystald candy bowls. I'd hate to think someone would just throw that away.
but I do think donation favors are really nice too. The majority of my guests though wouldn't be too happy about it the only reason I know is because it's been done before and I've heard complaints about it.

Re: Donation favors...
Who would complain about waterford crystal, i wouldn't, thats nice!
I've heard many in my family complain about the mints and silver almonds in the backs of glass swans wrapped in a lovely colored cheese cloth.... I usually keep them for a year and then go 'why am i keeping this dusty stale candy?' and throw it out.... I wouldn't throw away crystal tho...
saddens me that people would actually complain about a donation being made than receiving a favor... but whatever thats whats so great about your own wedding... in the infamous words of Burger king, you get to 'have it your way!'

I know this, but after awhile they dont regain their original composure and eventually have to be disgarded...

I think it's a great idea as well.
I guess it's becoming more 'common' for people to donate. I've never been to a wedding in the past where someone had done that. I've thrown out much that i've recieved and the only one I still have I never use (its a wine stopper-i rarely drink wine).
We're planning on donating to Susan G. Komen in honor of both our mothers (considered 'cured') and my grandmother (current) who are struggling with the disease.

Re: Donation favors...
I think we're going to split our donation between Susan G. Komen and the American Heart Association. We're lost loved ones to both breast cancer and heart disease, unfortunately.
I love the donation idea, but I can understand why people do favors, as well.
