My grandfather passed 3 years ago from Lung Cancer - and I think it's a really nice touch - although I've heard different things from others...

Re: Donation favors...
We are doing this in memory of FH's mom. We are donating to the American Heart Association. Two of my cousins have done donation favors also. I think you are helping great causes and you don't have to feel like your money is wasted if your guests don't take their favors.

Re: Donation favors...
We're considering this, too. We've got a number of relatives that died from cancer (and quite a few survivors). Making a donation just seems like a better use of my money than buying people salt-and-pepper shakers or something... JMO

Re: Donation favors...
i was at a wedding recently where they did a donation. I liked the way they set it up...they had a special table with 4 baskets, each with a different charity. The guests where to put their place setting in the basket that they wanted the couple to donate to. (so the percentages were split up among the 4 charities). i know one particular charity they chose was personally important to them, but they put in others as well. They had one for breast cancer, and they had pink ribbons next to that basket. they also had a little info about each charity. i thought it was a good idea.

I love the idea...for those who may think it's 'cheap' (as I heard someoe say once)they are selfish, ignorant, spineless human beings. ARHHHH it makes me so mad!
I think people took my post the wrong way. I wasn't bad mouthing people giving favors...I am giving favors! i was just saying that I heard someone say at a wedding I attended that donations are the 'cheap way out'. I screamed at her and was so mad that someone would say or think that. I didn't mean to imply you thought donations were cheap bc you were giving favors Snowflake!

My FMIL told me she things its kinda weird cause the guests are 'CHOOSING' to donate...and most ppl want gifts
LMAO - welcome to my world.............
I was so mad, but kept my composure - I told her I usually throw out the favors they give - that's not why you go to a wedding, for a gift...ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Yeah because we go to weddings to give a $200 or moregift to get a $3 (if that) favor

i rally like that idea.. thanks for sharing..
this is nice because when donating the bride and groom choose and the guests have no say, but this way the guests have some input in it!! love it!!

Re: Donation favors...
I've been to many weddings where a donation has been made and think it's a wonderful idea.
We did a donation, in addition to giving out votive placecards and Lindt truffles. Each guest also received a LiveStrong bracelet, as a donation was made to Lance Armstrong's LiveStrong organization.

Re: Donation favors...
i wanted to donate to the local ASPCA instead of giving favors. My FH said his family would think we were cheap. Either that, or that we were trying to show off what 'good people' we think we are. I told him they can bite me.
buuuuut.... we'll probobly give 'real' favors and make a donation on our own without telling anyone.

yea seriously, i was told my future inlaws would feel that way. meanwhile we would donate more than we would put towards a material favor. *** is wrong with people??

Re: Donation favors...
I guess for Italian families it's different..if the favor doesn't have at least a five year use and there isn't a boumbinieri attatched to it, then all hell breaks loose!! Are there any other traditional Italian ladies that can relate? My family would roll over and croak if I said, 'Your gift is a donation'..they'd be skeptical and say that people do that to 'pretend' they buy gifts but only send a small amount to charity and keep the rest...bastardos! LOL I know I'd get that one!

I wish I knew, sometimes people make me sick.
We'll probably donate more than we would pay for favors also.
