Don't feel like celebrating :( My grandma

Original post by jsta76

Well I haven't been around much the last few weeks. Figured i'd share, even though this is hard for me.

A few weeks ago my mother called and 'warned' me that my grandmother wasn't doing too well and she wanted me to go to the nursing home.

Last week the whole family was rushed in because they were worried and she had gotten worse.

Well today she passed away. She was 93 and would have ben 94 a few days before my wedding. She'd been in the nursing home due to Alzheimers the last 10 years and I watched her slip further and further away.

Her funeral is on Wed and we'll be sitting shivah until Sunday. My shower unfortunately is on Sat and I really don't want to celebrate. I know she wouldn't want it that way but I feel so wrong.I know I'll be surrounded by familly and friends but it hurts.

I am so so sorry for your loss. I completely understand how you feel - I lost my Grandmother almost 4.5 years ago, and I still think about her everyday.

As difficult as it is, try to enjoy your shower - and all other upcoming wedding events. I know it's not easy, but you have to keep reminding yourself how much your happiness meant to your Grandmother.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. It really means so much to me.

I'm at work right now as I'm trying to keep my mind of things before the funeral tomorrow. I have no clue what I'm going to accomplish though.

What has really helped me was something my sister said to me the other day. She mentioned how now my grandmother will be with us on the day of our wedding.

Before, she was so sick, she had no clue who we were, didn't walk or talk. She was essentially a vegetable.

Now, she will watch over us and is smiling at the woman I have become and how happy my FH makes me.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know this isn't easy, but I am sure she would want you to have a great shower and wedding.

I lost my Mom's mom over 10 years ago. Not a day goes by that I don't miss that woman. During this whole planning process I have gotten physically upset a number of times because even after all this time I still miss her like crazy.

I lost my step-mom's mom last year. She was a great lady also. We are getting married a day before her birthday.

I am just happy to know that even though they won't be there physically I know they are always with me, especially on my wedding day.

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my grandma the same way.

I know it is very hard, but you need to try to rememeber the good times with her and that she would want you to try and enjoy this time leading up to your wedding including your shower.

I lost my grandma in august to alzheimers/Dimentia...and a lot of other things.

I wish she was here to see all that is happening with the wedding.

Hang in there...She will be with you.

And have a good time on saturday...i know what you mean...its going to be hard to have fun, but hang in...she would want you to have fun

first- think about what a long wonderful life she had with you, she knew you were going to get married and she didnt want to be in the position she was in now so she went to a better place that she is comfortable, and can watch over you.

second- i know its hard loosing a grandmother ( mine died two years ago its its still very hard on my family ) but she was going through cancer, so your grandma is now in a much healthier and peaceful place, and im sure there is other family with her right now, and she would want you to celebrate your shower and keep all the happy times in your heart with her!
