Don't feel like celebrating :( My grandma

Original post by jsta76

Well I haven't been around much the last few weeks. Figured i'd share, even though this is hard for me.

A few weeks ago my mother called and 'warned' me that my grandmother wasn't doing too well and she wanted me to go to the nursing home.

Last week the whole family was rushed in because they were worried and she had gotten worse.

Well today she passed away. She was 93 and would have ben 94 a few days before my wedding. She'd been in the nursing home due to Alzheimers the last 10 years and I watched her slip further and further away.

Her funeral is on Wed and we'll be sitting shivah until Sunday. My shower unfortunately is on Sat and I really don't want to celebrate. I know she wouldn't want it that way but I feel so wrong.I know I'll be surrounded by familly and friends but it hurts.

I am so sorry. She wouldn't want you to stop celebrating if she was here.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know it is hard to celebrate when all you feel like doing is greiving. Keep this in mind -- when you want to cry let your FH be your rock (I know mine was when we lost my grandfather in Sept). But it is ok to be happy about the events coming up.

It sounds to me like your healthy grandmother would have been enjoying this time -- so enjoy it for her. If she was still alive and ill she probably would not have enjoyed but she is now at a place where she can.
